Noisiest engine? (Detroits and JD 2 cylinders excluded)
|
I just thought this would be a fun post for those of us that have driven plenty of tractors around the farm or just at the fair for track duty. What is the noisiest tractor/engine? My vote goes to a 4610 Ford (201 ci 3 cylinder). I wasn't even doing PTO work and that thing just beat on by ears terribly, so after about 5 minutes I tracked down some ear plugs. I'll never whine about the 5610 Ford/New Holland again after driving that noise bucket. |

The fords are bad for sure, grew up on them. The 4 cylinders arent really that much better in terms of noise to me, a little but not much. Bryan Lively - |

the compact ford (1700,1500) was the noisiest tractor I have ever sat on outside of the detroit. That being said a natural aspirated perkins is a noise maker with a straight pipe. |

Agreed, a 354 Perkins w/ a straight pipe is very noisy! |

green one

The 354 perkins has my vote. We had an old 1100 masey cranked up with a straight pipe back in the day it had lots of smoke fire and noise. |

John Deere 2630. It had a muffler but may have been burnt out because plowing or discing with it all day would make your ears ring all night. |

AYE??? WHAT'S THAT YOU SAY??

Many years ago when the 806's were new, I ran an 806 na pulling a tandem. I don't know what engine it would have had at the time, but, it was loud enough thru the muff that the radio bolted on the right fender was hard to hear when it was fully cranked. I can STILL hear that thing laboring and bellering up those hills. |

It's not really a tractor but we had a New Holland silage chopper with a 3160 Cat that someone put dual straights on. That thing was very noisy to listen to running at PTO speed all day. |

I know our old M has a pretty good bark to it with the straight pipe on, and the rpm's opened up! I usually turn the 45degree stack away from me so I don't get a headache lol |

Loudest tractor I did work with was a 1466 with a 4 inch chrome pipe on a 1250 gehl chopper. But the loudest tractor I've heard is an oliver. Could here the neighbor 2 miles away plan as day. |

It may not be the loudest but an old 4440 with a straight pipe you can hear for miles at night out in the field. |
