Thursday Night at the National Farm Machinery Show

The air is a little chillier tonight in Freedom Hall, the crowds continue to file in, the Superfarm tractors are set to kick off the show.  It looks like the Wolverine Deere will be tonight’s test puller.  The drivers are heading out on the track for the introductions.  We get a quick ad from the pull sponsor Syngenta.  For the farmers out there that are tractor pulling fans if your looking for a change in your incesticide, herbicide, fungicide or any other chemicals for your crop take a look at Syngenta.  They have sponsored this show for a number years and we are all thankful for their continued support for this event.  I’m a firm believer in supporting the sponsors that support the sport we love.

The National anthem has been played, the drivers are leaving the track and the great looking 4430 John Deere is getting backed up to the sled.  It looks like it’s going to be a capacity crowd for tonight’s show.

Superfarm Time

  • Tony Sietsema is on the far right hand side of the track.  Tony slowly builds the boost and the deere eases it’s way out of the hole.  Tony hooks up and the deere stands up on the wheelie bars.  The front settles in at 100 feet and Tony is off into the sand pile.  About 3 feet deep into the sand for the deere
  • Pete Baxter brings the Red Rock to the line and he is lineup in Sietsema’s tracks.  We’ll see if the sled is set in just a few seconds.  Pete has the Red Rock wound up tight tonight.  The great looking IH has a good hole shot and has plenty of power for the gear he’s turning.  Pete has good ground speed but falls a few feet short of the sand pile at 241.63
  • Ron Ehmen and the IH 3688 known as Fire and Ice starts out in the same tracks.  Ron has a great pass going and the IH has the front up, the front tires settle at 125 and then just ease up a few inches and he’s rolling.  He gets a slight bounce going at 200 feet and it hurts the big IH and the motor lugs down and he ends his pass at 236.15.  Great pass but a tough few bounces hurt in the end.
  • Justin Wagler and the Real Deere 6030 gets green flags, you guessed it right of center.  The big deere labors hard out of the hole and never really lights up.  Not sure if it was a clutch problem or a turbo problem but the deere just wasn’t up to snuff tonight and he runs right out of sick motor at 204.75.  The tractor wanted to run away on Justin at the end of his pass and he quickly gets it shut down
  • Nick Skaar and the Screaming Norwegian starts in the same tracks and the Case IH 7240 launches off the line.  He stands it up tall all the way out to 125 feet.  Nick has got an awesome pass going, the motor is crisp, and the ground speed is the best in the class so far.  He paves a path right down the center lane of the track and easily parks the nose deep into the sand pile.  The fullpull line is 242 and he’s well past that at 246.38.
  • We’ve got a quick intermission going as we have some problems with the sled.  The purple Bauer sled was great last night and as usual Vaughn does a great job getting the sled set right off the bat.  We’ve got a red and a green out the gate with plenty of great iron left to pull.
  • Harry Bledsoe and the Red Dog back to the sled.  Harry has struggled with this new (Dennis Goodwins old) chassis.  The Dog doesn’t struggle tonight, Harry makes an almost identical run to Nick Skaar’s pass and he eases into the sand at 244.28.
  • The always tough Jim Briske and the Bodacious on the line. Same line as everyone else, and same result fullpull and 243.94.
  • Wayne Thompson athe Technical Difficulties on the line.  Wayne has a nice hole shot, the tractor want to head left and Wayne gets on the brakes and keeps it straight.  Something in the rear or driveline lets go and the IH comes down hard and the RPM goes through the roof  not sure how much damage but he stops at 178.92
  • Controversy on the line with the MM Pro Pain of Marc Colberg.  This MM usually has trouble with a roof over it’s head but not tonight, Marc has a great pass on the nonsmoker and adds a little more color to the pulloff.  Marc Showed great power and ran real cleanout to 245.51
  • Jeremy Smith and the extremely beautiful JD 7520 Hystrung has a nice pass going but the deere has a strange whistle to it tonight.  Close but just not good enough tonight at 240.44.
  • Bob Evans and the One Nasty Cat White on the line.  The 6195 has a little different sound to it with the 3208 Cat V-8 under the hood.  Maybe one gear to optimistic and the Cat wants to head to the left.  Bob gets the Cat corrected but he just can’t get the ground speed up an falls well shorts at
  • Justin Weaver and the Super Farmer on the line.  Justin had a great summer on the ESP circuit and the Black IH builds the boost and then just dies on Justin.  A puff of smoke from under the hood and real tough luck for a real nice family.
  • Mac Darnell and the Scheidster the 2003 ATPA Champ.  Mac pulls from the far right hand side of the track to the far left hand corner.  Mac has the tractor weighted good and the front is up but he never gets it rolling and comes up short of the promise land at 233.70
  • A great looking Deere with brand new 8000 sheet metal on the line, RJ Carson and the Green Dream.  Right of center, and he comes out hard.  He’s turning a real tall gear on the 8520 but has some problems and the motor lugs down and smoke from the clutch and his ride ends back at 215.70
  • Gerald Gerlach and G-Force has been real strong lately.  The great looking 1066 turn some good RPM and the binder heads toward the center of the track.  It’s a great pass and Gerald spins out with power to spare but is just a hair short and misses the cut at 240.87.
  • Bill Figanbaum and the Instigator right of center.  Bill gets a little squirrelly and has to pedal the deere hard a couple of times.  Bill is dumping a ton of water on the track for most of his pass and never really brings the front off of the ground.  His problems keep the capable John Deere well off of the leaders pace at 230.79
  • Smokin Gun and Chad Mares doing the driving.  The 8210 shows good power but hops down the track and the hop kills any chances of winners circle at 234.37
Pulloff Tme in Superfarm
  • Five in the pulloff and only 4 go to the finals great show again for the Superfarm.  As a quick side note, almost every, if not every competitor in the class was using double cut tires.
  • Wolverine Deere, Tony starts out right of center and has a strong pass.  He has to pedal the right brake a little and spins out at 225.17.  Good pass but I’m not sure if it will stand up for the win.
  • Nick Skaar and what I believe is the old Slowride alcohol Superstock chassis.  The 7240 liked to standup tall when terry had it and Nick does the same, he stands it up nice and tall and has a great pass but it just isn’t good enough to take the lead as he labors out to 221.74.
  • Harry Bledsoe is set to go on the Red Dog.  This is the last chance for the IH to move into the lead and take the win.  Incase anyone is wondering intercoolers are legal tonight and turbos must be 3”x3” but can have MWE grooves.  Real nice pass for Harry, he pedals it left, and he pedals it right and spins out in the center of the track at 221.56.  Harry had it weighted great and had the front up and carried it well.
  • Named after the famous rodeo bull, it’s Bodacious.  Jim carries the front all the way out to the  150 foot marker.  Good ground speed and he powers his way into second place with a pass of  224.85.  Maybe the Wolverine Deeres distance is going to hold up.
  • Can the clean burner MM push the deere out of the lead and/or push a red one out of the show?  The big MM lights and doesn’t miss a beat.  The motor sounds real nice but Marc bounces hard at 100 feet but the big MM powers it’s way throught it but he falls just a half foot short of making the finals at 221.09.
  • Great class of SuperFarm again tonight.  We saw the sand pile, we had red, we had green, and we even had yellow good mix of color and a well run and set class.
Twd Dive Truck are set to go
  • Robert Elliot and Ol Blue.  The NTPA standout has some problems out of the hole.  Robert gets the green flag and lights it up for 5 feet and then pulls back on the throttle and get towed back to the starting line.  He gets a fuel line tightened and he gets it refired.  He gets it rolling again and immediately gets the red flag.  Seems he’s got a bolt missing from the blower.
  • Roland Barr and the Midnight Mistress.  Roland starts out right of center and has a real strong wheel standing pass to the center of the track.  The trucks nose is in the air and the tires are locked into the track, the Georgetown Ohio team uses all their horses and sets the mark in the class at 222.63.
  • Medicine Hat Alberta is a long way to come to pull the Ford F-150 called the hunter, Adrian Hunter behind the wheel.  Center lane, and hammer down, the front tires stay nice and low, a foot or so off of the ground.  Adrian hunts down the leaders cone and then walks into the lead by eight feet at 230.22
  • Jimmy Mattingly and Jamie’s Revenge.  Just right of center and the maroon bucket moves into second place so far with a nice pass of 226.70.  The truck locked into the track at the end if Jimmy’s run and labored but still had the horses to spins out.
  •  Wayne Sullivan and the Big Ed Red tries to head down the left hand side of the track.  Wayne has a real strong hole shot going when the Red S-10 just quits on him.  It acts like a blower belt as it suddenly dies but the belt is intact not sure what happened, 134.41.
  • Richard McPherson and the Midwest Raider.  Dick tries the far left hand lane and the truck bounces a little out of the hole.  He hooks up real well and the nose shot toward the sky, the truck is hooked but Dick is digging some pretty deep trenches and piles up a ton of dirt in front of the sled.  He come to a stop well back at 215.86.
  • Ricky Long and the purple and pinkish Willy Makit.  The funny car headers on the 41 willy give it a unique sound.  He pull from the right corner to the left corner and has a real strong run, not enough for the lead but it moves him into the third spot for now at 223.83.
  • t’s another Willys, but with a completely different look, it’s the Midnight adness of Dale Nelson.  Dale sits way back on the Jeep Willys’ bodied ruck but he’s still close enough to hear that the Jeep’s motor just doesn’t ant to perform up to par tonight.  Not really sure if it was the otor of if it was too tall a gear but it really labored and came up short t 210.61.  Tough brake for Nelson.

  • Jessie Petro heads straight down the center of the track on his white bucket truck.  Jessie has the truck weighted good and has good power but never seems to get the ground speed going and isn’t going to make it tonight with a run of 205.69
  • The Xtreme Pleasure of Tony Tatum starts out jut right of center.  Sassy powered S-10 doesn’t have the best hole shot, he eases it put of the hole and he never get the transfer moving.  He’s got a cylinder missing and then it cleans out and the truck starts to make some good power.  He get the transfer rolling and then a quick burst of air and a lifted blower ends his night at 194.99
  • Always tough, always near the top, with the chopped top on the f-150 Saw Mill Express it Stan Sheltons chance to see what he can do.  Stans tries the left hand side of the track and he heads for the right hand corner.  The nose is low for Stan and he never gets hooked to the ground, the motor is there but the track is proving to be tricky for the two wheelers to figure out.  Stan is uncharacteristically off of the pace at 213.33
  • Dave Richardson and the Kodiak, Dave has really been running better lately and the truck is running strong tonight.  I’m not sure if the starting line is going away but nobody has been able to get a hold of the track to get the speed going in the beginning of his run. Dave is capable of a much better run than 214.73
  • Mike Rodgers tries his hand at the KY clay on the dog house truck.  Mike starts in the center of the track and heads to the right hand corner truck is weighted well and runs real strong but can’t seem to grab any real estate at 213.39
  • Great new look on the Feelin Lucky truck of Martin Nies.  The stretched 56 chevy looks great with the black paint and the orange flames.  Not sure but it doesn’t look like Marty timing is just right, the truck spits and sputters alcohol out and can only struggle to get 189.71.  Tough break for one of last years very humble and gracious winners.
  • Doug Theobold tries right of center and heads just left of center.  It just doesn’t seem to matter what lane you take, there seems to be less and less to grab on to out there.  It’s the luck of the draw sometimes in pulling but the late number just are struggling to get a decent distance, 208.06.
  • Far left for Terry Jostock and the Wild One.  Terry twists the old Twister truck pretty hard and heads to the right hand corner of the track.  The front end skips about a foot off the track and Terry has a very respectable pass for the track conditions no distance given but near 220, just got it 216.01
  • Brian Nelson and the Texas Stampede charges his way into the nuber four spot with a very strong pass of 223.16.  Actually an excellent pass considering it’s been real tough to crack the 215 mark.
  • Robert Elliott back again, the third time is not the charm for Robert, he has a great hole shot and the then the truck quits.  The inview Robert and he thinks the mag may have quit on him.  Tough break.
  • Decent class of trucks, after 2000 miles on the road it must feel pretty good for Adrian Hunter to pick up a win and move on to the finals on Saturday
More Methanol and more horses it’s alcohol Superstock time.
  • Brent Payne and the Color of Money.  I don’t have favorite but I’m rooting for this team to pick up their first national win.  Numerous state and regional wins but the national win eludes them.  One word, awesome, clean crisp motor and a wheel standing pass.  The front is in the sky and Brent just pedals the brakes as the tractor want to drift left.  The motor runs better than I’ve ever heard and Brent Just plow through the sand pile.  The weights hit the concrete and sand flies all over the crowd in section 244.  He finally gets stopped at 249.41.  Doesn’t look like and damage and Brent is ecstatic, and he should be.
  • The sled gets reweighted and John Evans is set to do battle.  On Big Toy II, formally Slowride.  To say it’s on kill is an understatement.  John is rocking and rolling and does a good job driving it all the way out to 238.90.  He really hooked up at 150 and it shot skyward.
  • Keigm Parobek and My Other Deere.  Popping, banging, and tons of blue smok on the deere and she doesn’t want to light for him on the first attempt.  She lights hard on the second attempt and put out a blue green flame 4 feet on the stacks.  Flames from under the steering wheel and Keigm ride come to an end at 197.31.  Awful strange pass on the 504 Deere, temperature is cold and may have had something to do with it.
  • Robert Galloway and the Hulk start out in the center of the track.   Galloway come out of the hole strong.  The 504 Deere sounds good but bad luck for Galloway as the tractor quits and just breaks for Robert.  The clean looking tractor will be back to do battle another day somewhere around 60 ft
  • Joe Kwiatkowski and Taking Care of Business.  One of Joe’s best driving jobs.  The front goes
  • A few feet in the air but not too high and he sneaks it out the gate past the 242 fullpull mark and just into the sand.
  • Kim Wellert, and the AC D-21 known as Pieces Parts right of center and set to do battle.  The D-21 has a little flutter to the motor and never really cleans out.  It makes a straight pass down the center of the track but comes up short at 188.48’ He around 504 cubes so not a bad pass on the little motor
  • Color of Money right of center and doesn’t get the pass he wants.  The motor is still pretty hot and is breathing very hard out the bottom end.  Brent does an excellent driving job again but has to stand on the right brake numerous times to keep the deere in line 225.42  Very impressive for the brake work Brent had to do.
  • Jordan Lustik and a resume as long as anyones in the SS class.  A very Jordan like run, a laser line down the right hand side of the track smooth as silk front up and into the sand he back out of it at 245.75.
  • Dave Sonnentag is very capable of taking the Savage into the sand.  Dave has a great run with the front end 3 feet in the air it’s a real pretty pas but dave has to ride the right brake and come up a little short at 235.60.
  • Silver Springs NY Native Sid Broughton and the Return of Desperado.  Right of center for the big binder.  The tractor has had a tendency to go left on Sid in the past, but not much tonight he taps the right brake slightly and has a decent pass.  The motor never really cleaned out and got the RPM that Sid was looking for and he is a few feet off the mark at 228.96
  • Marc Clifton and Constant Aggregation.  Marc is right of center and does a nice driving job but the 4320 wants to hop a little on Marc and it hurts him at the far end of the track at 208.34
  • Larry Robert and the Big Toy.  Has her weighted a lot better than his teammate John Evans, the front is off the ground but only about a foot and a half keeping the draw nice and high and Larry is playing in the sand pile and pull back and coasts to 245.11.
  • Ted VanValkenburg and the Backdraft AC.  He won the ESP light and heavy Superstock points this summer.  Just a hair right of center for Ted.  504 Cubes come to life, nose is up and the tractor is running as crisp as I’ve ever heard, very respectable pass for the little pushrod motor from NY at 204.74.  Very nice driving job by Ted straight and smooth.
  • Duane Schroeder goes from the right hand corner to the left.  Another great driving job and Duane make an excellent pass at 223.30
  • Brand New Mining For Dollars with Ken Mealsel behind the wheel.  First hook on the brand new tractor which sports billet aluminum frame rails.  Yes you heard me Aluminum frame rails.  The tractor light up and sound pretty nice out of the hole, the motor couchs a quits on Ken and he coasts to 127.19.  We’l see much more rom that tractor in the future.
  • BJ Marino and the Show-Me-Showdown, The IH has gone back to the old ten ply pullers, they weren’t real happy with the performance of the HP’s.  BJ lines up right of center and the tractor never cleans out for him.  He losses the fire and it just coasts to a leisurely 167.11.  Another strong running tractor that will be back to put on a good show another day.
Pulloff in the Alkys
  • Arguably the three best tractors in the business, TCOB, Bullet, and The Toy.  The best of the best, all will go to Saturday night but Thursday is about to be decided.
  • Right of center for Joe Kwiatkowski.  The tractor wants to head left on Joe, he pedals the brakes with the nose 2 feet in the air and has a great pass out to 236.66.  Great mark to beat, they have their work cut out for them.  Joe did touch the brake and a perfect pass might take the lead.
  • Jordan has been here before and goes a little further right than Joe did on the line.  He lights up the triple chargers on the Bullet and shoots down the center and into the lead at 242.41.  New leader.
  • Larry is pushing it harder than anyone in the class and if anyone can do it he can.  The IH comes out of the hole just screaming, and the IH just can’t take it.  I huge burst of air, a flash of flame and the side panel puff out.  A broken belt falls out from under the hood.  Larry night is over after 150ft not Sure if it detonated on him or what happened but he will be ready for the finals.  Intake manifold is the final verdict.
