Saturday Afternoon

The people are already starting to file in with 45 minutes remaining until driver introductions.  The 4wd trucks are getting rolled into the pull, like all the classes in pulling, these guys have really stepped it up with beautiful paint schemes and extremely clean trucks.  The gloss and clear coat on these bodies would look just as at place at a truck show as it does rolling down the track. I don’t get to many events that have the 4wd’s but I love to see the huge six and seven hundred cubic inch motor battle it out on the clay.

I’m not sure of the pull order this afternoon but we also have an excellent class of Pro Stocks again, we’ve got green as usual, some real strong red tractors, and arguable one of the strongest diesel AC tractors in the world.  We also have the pint sized multi charger power houses, the Light Supers.   The little light supers are still one of the most exciting and colorful classes in all of pulling.  There are diesel tractors, alcohol tractors, Ford/New Holland, IH, John Deere, Case, AC, Minnie Mo, and yes even a Cockshutt, does it get any better than that?  We are even going to have a component tractor in the light Ss, with the all new insanity of Larry Philips.  It should be a very interesting show.  Even though this class does not currently have a national circuit, it seems to be growing and getting a little healthier each year.  I wouldn’t be surprised to see this class make a comeback on the regional circuits and maybe even the national circuit with the right set of rules.

Fwd Truck are set to go

  • Robert Dickman and the extremely beautiful Dakota Thunder.  The big maroon dodge is right of center.  Robert eases the dodge out of the hole, he wants until 125 feet and then feathers the big motor up to full throttle, it’s a nice smooth pass and Robert uses every last horse to get to 235.83.  Strong run for the opening pass but we are going to reset things and give it another shot.
  • Robert Dickman is heading right back to the sled and is exercising he test hook option.  He starts in the center of the track and light the motor up at 100 ft this time.  More Rpm out of the truck on this pass, and it looks like a stronger pass.  He must have gone down a gear and he spins out at 237.37
  • Cody Lewis and the Fired Up chevy.  Great looking flames on the chevy S-10.  Left side of the track for cody.  Cody has a monster run.  He drive left of center and smooth as silk.  He is hooked to the track and has great ground speed.  Cody bulldozes his way into the sand pile.  The front drives into the sand easily at 242.85.  Awesome pass for cody.
  • Debbie Sebastian and the Nite Train ford.  Debbie spots the sled as far right as you can get it.  About 6 inches from the righthand chalk and Debbie is locked into the track, she is just rolling, she easily powers her way into the sand pile and it looks like we are going to start this class over and keep things a little safer.
  • Cody Lewis is fired up first for the restart.  Cody hammers it again at the hundred foot mark and has and drives down the left hand side 3 feet from the line.  It’s another monster run for Cody.  The sled is set perfect this time, Cody has the weight just ahnging over the sand and Cody comes to a stop at 234.76.
  • ebbie is set to go again after the reset, and again far right.  She ammers it at 75 feet and has a nice smooth pass and falls short of the and pile, she hugged the right hand line and spins out at 229.61
  • Tom Tormoehlen backs the spellbound truck to the sled.  Tom’s TFS motor are in a number of trucks around the country.  Center of the track and buncing out of the hole kills toms pass at 219.79
  • Kim Edington is left of center on the mister recovery truck.  He has a nice straing run down the left hand side of the track and out to 231.68
  • Randy Kleikamp and the Ol Yeller truck is just left of center.  Randy bounces a little eout of the hole, but the truck settles in and Randy has a good straight pass but the truck os putting out a little blue smoke and Randy isn’t making his usual power and he spins out at 223.38
  • Brad Hunter takes a nice pass on the Knight Rider.  Left of center and a good strong run but it won’t shake up the order any at 224.20.
  • Robert Dickman is back out for his third attempt of the day.  He spots the sled in the dead center of the track.  With two runs already the motor is probably pretty hot.  Robert gets on it hard at the 75 foot mark and pulls just left of center and comes to a stop at 222.92
  • RB Moler and the To The Xtreme truck spot the sled to the right.  The big dodge runs the tall gear tonight and has just enough horses to keep the gear turning and shales up the order with a stout pull of 231.34.  Good show of power and good track read for RB
  • Just left of center with the Ratical truck of Steve Clem.  The pink and blue four wheel drive truck lights it up at 75 feet and has a good run heading to the right hand corner of the track.  The front end is shaking badly at the end of his run and steve has some minor breakage to a front support after he spins out at 231.47.
  • Temple Briendine and the Footloose ruck.  Temple runs a different tire cut than most of the competitor.  The bars on the front are very closely spaced like double cuts, and the rear tires are more traditional single cut.  Temple is far right and the motor works hard in the tall gear and pull up just short at 224.00
  • Legendary is an understatement, Paul Holman and the 4-Play truck. Far right for the holmans.  The truck doesn’t hook up to the track and paul really has to work hard to get any distance.  He spins out well short of the leaders back at 221.45.  Not the hook he was looking for.
  • Rick Johnson brings the Bad Bowtie over from Wyoming to pull he at Loiusville.  He sets the sled just left of center.  The big chevy has a strong hook, he doesn’t have the gear just right, a hiar too tall on the chevy but he still maages to get out to 219.40
  • The Yankee Blue of Scott Phillips on the line.  Scott has picked Chevron sponsorship with the great looking blue f-250.  He pulls from left of center to right of center and spins out with a nice smooth straight pass, 211.56
  • Rick Johnson and the Lean Meat Machine, they are turkey farmers for those that are wondering about the name of the truck.  The S-10 body looks great on this truck.  The truck immediately starts to hook sideways, he does a great job keep the truck dog legging down the track but it’s only a three wheel drive today as a broke axle kills his chances of shaking up the order at 174.49.
  • Gary Varner and the Fast Break Chevrolet are set to do battle.  He off to the right and it s going to take a monster pass to take the win.  Gary has a real strong run, especially this late in the class, he eases it out and eases into it at 100 feet. It’s one of the stronger runs of the day considering track conditions but it just falls short of promise land and puts him in the fifth spot at 229.71.
Real good class of trucks, not much breakage, and close competition.  Smaller tires on the Louisville clay seem to have problems hooking up as the class progresses, and this track has proved to hook good o but the left and the right so far today.



Light Weight Super Stockers are up
Color is an understatement for this class, it looks to be a real good show.  This is the farm show and there are a ton of people here that came to see tractors, and we have two complete classes of them on deck.

  • Spark plugs will set the mark to beat.  It’s the white case of the Essary family, Kevin doing the driving today on Evening Thunder.  Right of center and a lots of smoke out of the left stack.  The tractor lights and just has problems and runs out of boost and coast to a stop, he will probably drop.
  • Brian Shaffer and the Bull Rush Ford.  Twin chargers on board for the alky burner.  Right of center and the little ford make a real nice pass the nose comes of the ground at 125 feet and he taps the brake and has a nice smooth run out to 234.25.  Real nice clean pass to get the class rolling.
  • It’s diesel time with Jay Fuqua and the Tennacious IH.  It’s a strong running little diesel tractor.  The great looking little MX is just a hair right of center.  Tennacious it’s just right today.  The motor never really seems to come to life for Jay and he struggle to get out to 208.87
  • It’s OHC alky time.  It’s the Squealer of Darrell Meese.  Right of center on the alky burner,  Darrell does what every diehard fan expects to see here, he stands it up real tall on the wheelie bars and shakes rattles and rolls his way deep into the sand pile 246.01.  The motor has plenty more in it and he backed out of the throttle with distance to spare.
  • Al Koch and the Entertainer II brings the AC powered Agco to the line.  The motor lights and the tractor wants to pull to the left Al corrects it and then something in the motor lets got.  It winds down and the motor knocks and come to a stop.  I’m going to guess that there was some brakeage in the valvetrain on the 504 pushrod motor, just a hunch, 136.96
  • It wild man Tom Wilhite behind the wheel.  They know how to put on a show here, and are just right of center.  If the tractor is right it could be sand bound.  He has an awesome pass goingthe wheels are up and the motor is humming, he is nearing the sand pile and I’m not sure if it ran out of horses or if Tom eased out of the throttle an thought he could coast to the sand but what even the reason he come to a stop at 239.01, just shy of the 244 fullpull mark.  Tom says he didn’t shut the tractor down, it just quit on him.
  • Walking Tall and Kevin Fulks, more New Hollands.  Kevin light it up and the NH creeps towards the left Kevin is standing on the brakes but it isn’t bringing the tractor around.  Kevin has to get out of the throttle and coasts just a few inches out of bounds near the 150 foot mark.  No official distance given but the DQ is official.
  • Kevin Essary is back for his second attempt.  He bounces hard out of the hole and the case struggle to light.  Some smoke, and a bang and the tractor detonates, it’s a little too lean and the case comes to a stop at 80 something feet
  • Mark Peissig and the Bomb, originally built buy Mark Hootman, then owned by the Wilhite and now in WI.  The tractor is right of center and just bounces out of the hole.  The tractor never wants to lock into the track.  He continues to bounce hard on the little NH and Mark just hold on an eases out of thethrottle near the 200 ft mark and the tractor settles in and pulls the last 20 feet smooth but it is a disappointing distance at 224.25
  • David Chappell and Let it Ride he starts right of center, and the little turbo Farmall 460 never want to run smooth for David.  The tractor brings back a ton of memories of years gone by in pulling , and unfortunately it runs like an early alcohol tractor today, tough luck for David, 183.16
  • The smoke tube get a workout again with Joe Wamble and the Wampucat IH 1066.  Joe has a reat hole shot on the IH but sparks immediately start to fly for under the rearend.  The axle pulls out of the rearend housing ad the starting line flagman is right on top of it a run out with the red flags waving.  The tractor is hurt but the axle is still in the housing it just torched the bearing, tough luck again today 61.85
  • The brand new IH alky burner of Larry Philips, Insanity.  Just right of center, the component binder screams to life.  Larry has to sand on the right brake to keep it on line, he gets the binder hopping  The beautiful light super made on nice pass for its first hook, The front was nice and low and it could has easily made the sand if it was a straight, and the tractor didn’t hop, it’s a sign of things to come in the light class, 236.01
  • Randy Payne and Guesswork, The beautiful green deere labors hard and never gets the hook randy is looking for it turned the tires hard but it just could not get the power to the ground, very disappointing run for one of the stronger diesels in this class, 203.86
  • John Hull and the unique MM 4 Cylinder.  Just because he only has 4 doesn’t mean he isn’t a strong runner.  The MM doesn’t want to light very hard tonight and John gets out of it and gives it a second attempt.  Just rught of center again for the MM, and a shift in the transmission and he gives it another go.  The little MM lights a little better this time but he still can’t hold the gear and comes to a stop at 124.52.  The motor just didn’t want to perform like I’ve seem it do before.
  • It’s the little Cockshutt that could, it’s the Levee Leaper of Ivan Carroll.  There aren’t many cockshutts in pulling, but this one runs pretty strong for the little motor.  The little alky turns the single cuts pretty good for the motor he’s got under the hood, and the he makes a very respectable pass out to 207.70 nice run for the unique little super.
  • One to go and it’s a diesel, it’s John Lancaster and the Entertainer.  The D-21 hops out of the hole and the double cut tires just don’t want to hook to the track and he come spinning to a stop at 190.61.
  • No surprise that Meese cleaned up.  He had a great pass and a little bit of luck on his side.  Wilhite could have made him earn it and Insanity Alcohol Addition mad a very impressive run but fell just short.  This class is going component in all organizations soon and it looks like it has the potential to make a very interesting comback.


Prostock Time
  • Tim Stone and Rollin Stone, Tim has been really stepping it up lately.  He starts up just right of center.  It’s a real strong pass.  The tractor bounces a little and settles in and rides it out with the front in the air at 240.48.  Correction, Paul doing the driving today.
  • Left of center and tim Cain with the red gambler.  Tim is very capable with this binder.  The single cut tires go to work and Tim is just flying.  The nose is up, but not too high, a foot or so Tim looks like he is headed for the sand pile.  He is almost to the promise land when he gets under the charger and comes to a stop at 240.64.  Excellent pass to take the early lead.
  • Jerry Ruhnow and the Ace in the Hole John Deere.  Center of the track and Jerry heads to the left.  He waits as long as he can, and then feather the brakes.  Jerry just keeps on rolling and it’s the best pass I’ve ever seen the JD 4455 make,  He is hooked and drives it right up the sand pile and out to 250.14. Yes that right 250+, thats a lot of sand.  Jerry was running single cuts
  • Double cuts on board for Mike Gall and the Scoundrel.  Right of center, Mike was a little too optimistic on his gear, and the 4010 can’t keep the tires turning and he runs out of air in the little deere at 167.61
  • Ray Link, Gon Moken on the line.  He is in the dead center of the track with the Deere.  The single cuts providing the bite.  Wow! He really hooks up.  The nose is high, the dirt is flying and he is just cruising.  The box tops, the pan drop and he doen’t seem to be slowing down one bit.  Ray gets out of it 20 ft from the sand and it still flys out to 247.82.  Good driving by Ray to get out of it
  • Showtime and Ken Delrue.  The IH hops hard out of the hole.  The tractor looks like it came out of gear, and ken get pulled back for a second attempt.  This time the silver and red binder stays in gear.  The motor begins to flutter but the IH keeps on turning the double cuts.  He may have lost a cylinder at 150 ft and he runs out of lug at 230.15
  • Tim Overmyer and the nice looking Sandhill Binder.  More single cuts on the clay here at the NFMS.  Right of center, pedaling the left brake then pedaling the right brake.  The wheelie bars are getting a workout on the IH.  Tim just keeps on chugging along it’s into the sand pile and past the 244 fullpull line at 247.88.
  • Always potent, always one of the strongest red tractors in the country, The Night Moves of Carl Smith.  He spots the sled right of center, green flags and the big Magnum starts to build the boost.  He drifts left but the crafty veteran taps the brakes and keeps the binder right down the center of the track.  Tons of Speed and tons of power and the red flag waves early to shut Carl down before he goes too deep into the sand, great hook and great driving as he coast to a stop at 246.16.
  • Bartie Nelson, and more single cuts.  The potent IH decides to take a real quick trip to the beach.  He joins 4 of his friends for a quick trip to the sand box.  Now we’ve got three binders and two plow boys in the pulloff.  The smoke tube decides to be ornery so I get to give my fingers a much needed rest.  A little tape a small patch of hose and we a quickly back in business.
  • Kevin Schmukcer likes this track, and this track has be kind to Kevin in the past, Rampage is set to do it’s business. The chain is tight, the lights are green, the flags go green, and the boost starts to build, the clutch locks on the deere and the JD is off and running.  He has a nice pass going but its one tooth too many tonight as Kevin motor works its’ way down the track and out of horses at 232.45.
  • The first pair of double cuts I’ve seen in a while, the road Farmer of Scott Syder. Another quick hose repair and another break for my fingers.  I hear the sound of the big diesel fire and we are ready for business again.  Right of center, and she build boost but it doesn’t just sound right under the hood.  He gets towed back for a second attempt, not sure if it will light. Scott gets it too light on the second attempt.  The tractor sounds alright but it is capable of much more power than it made today.  He makes a nice pass toward the left hand corner but comes up short at 238.95
  • Josh Martin Dairy Deere on the line.  Smoke tube gets another inspection but it looks ok.  Left of center and Josh comes out of the hole extremely hard.  The single cuts hook up and Josh heads for the center of the track.  The great looking deere works hard but still manages to scratch his way out to 244.50
  • Robert Martin follows with That Darn Deere.  Almost the same pass as Josh but the Deere hooks up hard at 150 ft and it pops up on the wheelie bars, that quick hop onto the bars is the difference, he spins out at 240.93.  Strong hook and plenty of motor but it wasn’t meant to be
  • Randy Campbell and the Soupline Express in the dead center of the track. Randy keeps the nose down on the deere, and it hooks up at 125 ft.  It’s a nice run but he gets bouncing and he doesn’t get all the power to the ground and comes to a stop at 233.64
  • Todd Domann driving one of the strongest AC diesels around.  These guys are no stranger to the winners circle despite giving up almost 100 cubic inch to some of their competitors.   The Tarantula Tequila ponsored machine is one nice looking AC.  They take their time building he boost.  The double cut tires just don’t want to hook up to the rack today.  The motor sounded real stong but they just didn’t have he right combo for the Louisville clay this afternoon.  Still a very espectable distance at 226.54
  • We’ve got one left to go.  Its red and it’s a good one, Nick McCormick and Nasty Stuff.  He has the 7240 lined up in the center of the track.  This is another team that knows how to build a red tractor that can run with the green ones.  Green flag, front a few feet off the ground, and to no ones surprise Nick is headed for the promise land.  Nick joins quite a few other tractors out in the sand pile, seven to be exact, and four of them are red.
Pulloff  time Prostock
  • Ace in the hole is out of the hole hard.  Jerry has got this tractor on kill.  He lays down another monster run to set a great mark.  He had the front in the air taps the brake and blows the smoke tube apart.  Black smoke pours out of the tube and Jerry make a statement with a extra weight in the box and still out to 226.24.
  • A quick patch to the tube and it’s time to Go Mokin again with Ray Link.  Ray link laid down one of the best passes to make the sand lets see if he can do it again.  Just a whisker left of center, and Ray does lay down another spectacular pass 230.82.  He wound up just left of center and took over the leaders position.
  • The Sand Hill Binder is the first chance for the Red fans to cheer.  Right of center this time, Tim wanders right, pedals it, wanders left pedals it, and keeps it on the wheelie bar the whole time.  He winds up 5 feet off the left hand line and settle into the third position for now at 224.53
  • Carl Smith spots the sled further right than Overmeyer did.  There is a puff of smoke in the front of the smoke tube as it can’t swallow it all fast enough, and Carl keeps the nose nice an low, maybe a few feet in the air and he just powers his way in to the leaders position with a picture perfect run of 231.32
  • Red again this time for Bartie Nelson.  He parks it in Mr Smith tracks and lets her go.  It hooks left, Bartie stands on the brakes and it keeps hooking left.  The 88 series IH finally starts to come around for Bartie.  He still has plenty of power left, and somehow manages to keep dragging the sled just past the leaders cone and into a new lead at 232.00.  Red Sits one and two
  • Only one Deere to got to try and take the leads spot away from the red, and it Josh Martin.  Josh comes out strong, the big lug single cuts dig in hard and the Deere hooks well the 7710 stands up tall twice then settle in and he is hooked to the track.  It is a very strong run but it is just not going to be enough to steal the victory away from the IH today, 224.93
  • Last tractor to go, and it’s red and it is very capable of taking the lead. Nasty Stuff.  Can he steal the lead, and/or put three red in the winners circle.  Center of the track and a real strong hook.  Nick does a great driving job on the IH but he has to get on the brakes and it hurts him at the far end, it’s still a nice strong pass but it’s not going to be good enough to make the show at 217.52.
