I had an experience last summer that directly relates to this topic. We have a 466 pro farm tractor without a radiator, so I'm always worried about being test puller because it's hard to cool down and I won't want to come back. In fact, this made me want to put a radiator back in.
Went to a pull with a short track, they told everyone at the drivers meeting that anything over 30

The rule in the NTPA is 1/2 inch bolts, has been for some time. Can't speak to other organizations.
Latest update is you can still have just two 1/2 inch bolts as long as they are within 2 inches of the exh housing. If not then you need 4.
I'm glad this is being handled so quickly. It is paramount that we ensure the safety of EVERYONE involved at a truck and tractor pull.

What size turbo????
I'd bet it's half and half. Some run 13/51 some run 49. I don't think it matters THAT much. Final ratio will be more important.... You will probably want a combination of transmission and final drive that gives you these ratios. 22:1. 21:1, 20:1 and a 19:1. Give or take 1 or two depending on turbo.

Where are you located? You can get the c rings from Hypermax, or a number of builders throughout the country can source them for you.
Pull your sleeves out, take them to your local machine shop. They will be able to cut them in.

What do you use for a head gasket when you use the C rings? Do you have to cut grooves in the block and head to use c rings?
We've always used the hyper fel pro gasket. Just cut the sleeves, any decent machine shop can do it. You will get the specs when you buy the rings.

Used both..... IMO anything over 1200 hp should have c rings and head studs. Anything under the copper rings work great.

I'm not sure what class this is for but if you are making any power at all you will need fire/compression rings. The best are "c" rings, expensive but the best. Copper rings are cheaper and work Okay as well. Once the compression is sealed up all your gasket is doing is sealing off oil and water. We use Hypers felpro gasket. I'm sure stock would work okay as well.
If you are doing al

Haha. I know an operator that might do that..... Puller1 may I ask what part of the country/state you were pulling in?
Either way it's sad and shouldn't be tolerated.

We have a 466 with harts latest 3x3, pro farm/hot farm open rpm motor and you are in the same ball park as us. On the dyno we did push timing to 38 and found it reliable. This is with harts pistons and big body injectors. Would you be willing to share your flow and swirl numbers in your oem head?

I asked the same question Dick, I've been going to Tomah for over 20 years and many state and region pulls in that time. I totally understand and agree with the float rule but why call it a "350 floating finish?" It's confusing for the fan. Simply call it a "floating finish."
Side note I thought Tomah did a great job again this year. You could tell in the pits that numbers were down

Yup must be Tomah, hot, humid and rain but still pumped to go.
I couldn't make Hutch pull so I streamed both nights.... The live stream quality was great! It has really improved over the past couple years. No more pauses or pixelated screen. The video and sound was crystal clear. Great job NTPA

I don't think a pumps are at THAT big of a disadvantage where they should get an intercooler and it be fair with non cooler p pump tractors.
I don't understand the a pump love you east coasters have. They have their place in a farm stock class but after that they should probably be upgraded. P pumps are probably about the same price but much more robust. Can everyone agree to change

Hey there. Good luck with your project!
What are your rules for cubic inch/turbo/tires ect?
Good news is you aren't worried about winning right away, you'll have much more fun with that mentality.
Bad news is eventually if you want to get competitive it will cost you. The more work you do yourself the better. Just get quotes on engine kits, fuel system, turbo, water inj, tires

That does seem tall for 500 hp.... really depends on how big your tires are, lug height and track quality ect....
I'd guess you would need to be in the 26:1 (ish) range on a 20.8 38 with a ag tire.
