If you register your 20K dualie trailer for 16000 and your truck GVW is 10000 which equal 26000, and you actually weigh less than 26000 going down the road, and you are hobby pulling, then you are legal in all aspects both in state and interstate without cdl or dot numbers.

Just because you win prize money does not make you in commerce. You could win a dollar at the fair for the best pumpkin but that don't make you a pumpkin farmer or somehow make you in the pumpkin business.

If the Classics don't stand a chance then I guess the profarm class would have no problem in allowing the classics to add weight to 10,000 and put 20.8 tires on and see how they stand up? maybe next year? as the original post suggests.

I would disagree. The Classics are making more power, they just weigh less and have smaller tires. I bet if the classics were weighted down they would be right there, and maybe out front even with smaller tires.

What a nice class! I hope it takes off and does well. Just goes to show you don't have to have the biggest cubes and multiple chargers to have fun and put on a good show. My cousin was happy to see the Allis out front but I was pulling for the JD, but either way it a great class and a good show. Congrats to all the competitors and their crews, and hope to see them back next year. I wonde

It would seem to me that if your PTO clutch discs are wearing out and it is hard to get it in gear that it would have to be that the pto piston is applying pressure when you don't want it to. Either an adjustment issue or more likely a oil porting issue that you are using to tie the two together. I have run a 5 disc for many years without those problems in my 4240.

I think it is a good and necessary thing to be able to post about any tractor part on here. It certainly can't hurt to help pullers swap parts, even if they may be just stock parts that help one guy fix a non puller but the seleer be able to advance his tractor cause he made a little money. Please don't take this feature away. I think it helps way more than it causes any inconvenienc

I see there is a LOT of confusion on this. If you are running a pick up and gooseneck and are hobby pulling and not over 26K then I K we are excempt based on this that I took off the DOT website...
You need a DOT number if:
your truck exceeds 10,000 pounds GVW or GVWR and is used interstate in commerce; or
your truck exceeds 26,000 pounds GVW or has three or more axles, and is used intras

26000 pounds total weight of the truck or total weight of the combination of the truck and trailer is the cdl limit. If you are under that and are not a commercial hauler, then none of this dot and cdl requirements apply. I have not seen anything that would put a non commercial pickup and gooseneck into the dot rquirments so long as it is under 26k.

I am rated and registered for 25900. Truck is 9900 GVWR, trailer is 16000 GVWR = 25900.

What DOT number did you call? That can't be correct... that means every person driving a 1 ton pick up needs a DOT number.. I seriously doubt that is the case

For most pullers my opinion is go with a gooseneck and a 14K or 16K trailer. 3/4 ton or 1 ton truck. I have a 16K tandem dually trailer and a 3/4 ton cummins. I am registered at 25900 gcwr. I can haul right around 12000 lbs on the trailer and stay under 26K. It just takes a little planning. Of course the big limitation is you can't take everything including the kitchen sink like you co

You are incorrect. If you are not a for hire and are not commercial and do not exceed 26k combination then none of the things discussed apply to you. Check this link out. dot and cdl are essentially both parts of the federal dot program.

The whole key is to avoid a combination tag over 26K, so long as you are under that then none of this applies. Too many folks forget that is all you need to do to stay out or this. If you have a 1 ton dually pickup and a 14K gooseneck you should be at or under 26K and no problems with any of these laws. I can go down the road with a 4430 weighted to pull in 11,500 class and my trailer and my p

as far as pickups are concerned so long as your combination is 26000 or less I dont see how any of this applies. definitley does not apply to just a single truck. the kodiak setup with a gooseneck is definietly over 26K and this law would apply

do you have any information on where to review this new reqiuirement? it is not posted on the iowa dmv website. hard to believe they would have a new law and not at least publish it. pages 3 and 11 of this manual published in 2009 say different.

I was pulled over several years ago because I did not have a combo registration on my pickup. I was running about 23000 pounds with a goose neck. I went to court and I claimed it was a hobby operation and I should not have to register it in combo because it was not commercial. I was asked "Do you win any money" and I replied "If I am lucky" . To that the justice of the peace replied "Then yo

I agree. Let him pull with the rest. unless you have a fair rule that somehow excludes the big dogs, don't try to push them out with some BS rule just cause they are beating you down. You can't just say they don't fit in, you have to have rules that make classes fair and balanced.

I nderstand your point, but the thread got off track and basically is insinuating that ALL tractors have everything. Surely we all learn from mistakes. My point is not All tractors need a steel flywheel and blanket etc.. You dont see safety nets, and tube chassis in over the raod normal automobiles, like NASCAR do you? Nor do you see them in stock cars at the drags. You have to exceed a cer

I think what some folks are missing in this thread is that not all tractors that go to a pull are performing at a level which necessitates a lot of safety equipment. there are lots of pulls with palin old farm tractors. sure, common sense would dictate more and more safety gear as performance increases as would be expected. but it is hardly necessary for all tractors to have every piece of saf
