it was a rubber mounted damper. not a solid mount fluid filled. stock tractor type. just spun on the rubber. we were just lucky it didn't come apart.

we had an IH 1466 with the same problem, found it after we had done some injector pump work. when we reinstalled the pump it ran terrible, so we rechecked the timing and it was off again so we re timed it and checked it. off again. long story short after checking every gear key and pin we discover our harmonic balance r it was rubber mounted and was spinning
and that was changing our timing. af

If you got 600 psi reading at the bottom of the mcv cover, the plug on top right with the two springs must be sticking. Sounds like the pump is dead heading until it blows. May want to pull that valve out and check it. To set the pressure with the new mcv buy an inner spring for a 1566 and cut off one coil. It should your pressure where you need to be. Just wondering does it blow out the "o"

Steering is first priority so maybe relief pressure valve or priority valve is sticking. Ta is the last thing to get oil, so checking ta pressure is end of line when pump builds pressure on start up. I cant remember which plug you take out, seems like about third plug down. check valve for scaring, needs to move freely.

not sure on the boreing sleeve but you could stroke it .375" and cut the top off your pistons add valve reliefs and get up your cid. clearance your rods a little in the block and combo works well.

murphy motor service 573 696-3655 .i had a cam ground for 301 ih by crane which worked well, but putting murphy's cam in made as much diffrence in proformance again as the first. now it has tourque any rpm and it turns 5000 rpm. crower grinds them but jeff has the grind numbers..
