If you want a low cost entry level class your choices are the local farm tractor classes at the county fair which check rpm and dyno the winner or NATPA Division I antiques where you make a hitch, wheelie bars, and weight bars and go pulling.

Running a good pull is a balancing act no doubt. Having ample parking for spectators and in the pits for pullers, having a good sled and operator, good people at the registration table, at the scales, hooking and unhooking the tractors, one telling each puller when they can come on the track, flagmen, one operating the backhoe or forklift, running the scraper tractors, announcers, sound system, l

I believe so. Here is the big question; with an engine that big what class could you pull it in?

Here are some questions that one may bring up. How many cubes can one get out of the Ford 456 block and run with let's say a 4.1 turbo? The same goes with the Minneapolis Moline 504. If you want an orange tractor you could do an Agco Allis running the Cat 3208 as V-8s are allowed as long as they came in twd tractors. So there is an orange option that has been ran for years in the case of Lus

I am just looking at possible setups for now. If I wanted to to a six cylinder I would not do an M. If I would do an IH six cylinder I would want it to be a 606. Other than that I would do a Case 970 with the 451 on diesel.

That's what I was figuring. I know those four cylinders do not like running high rpm. I am more or less interested in trying different setups from the usual.

I've seen footage of a Farmall Super MTA LLSS that pulls with Battle of the Bluegrass and was curious as to what it would take to build a Farmall M LLSS. For a block my guess would be the 281ci diesel from the 450. What would the turbo options be? Would the HX60 work in it? How much bore could one safely get with running a turbo? What heads to use? Would running the block less than 315ci to

I would not say that exactly. They are both better than running a stock C301 head.

Definitely look at the rules for the local clubs and independent pulls in your area. Looking at some of the antique pulling clubs in Pennsylvania for rules, they are all fairly similar to NATPA rules as far as what is allowed. Starting off you could do something as simple as putting in a Denny's Carb Shop overbore kit that would basically be putting in 350 sleeves and pistons inside of the e

I completely agree. When you are in these "Point and Shoot" classes where you just point the tractor and hope it stays in bounds, people are neglecting the fact that you actually have to know how to drive the vehicle.

Do not forget that at the line on the racing sleds that are used today the weight is on the rear axles of the sled and not on the pan.

The way the rules are set up, cubic inches are worth their weight in track distance. To be even somewhat competitive I will need my guess at least 420 ci.

The class I would be building it for I would be limited to 2400 rpm (20% over factory rpm) and has a 5mph speed limit. What setup (sleeves as well as how much stroke) would allow me to get the most cubic inches out of the 301 block without it becoming a ticking timebomb?

So would it be possible to bore the 301 and use 426 pistons and sleeves in it?

Depends on how big the turbos are and how much boost they put out.

When will the PPL come to Michigan? There are the pullers and the equipment to run in the PPL minus the Hot Farm classes. ATPA use to have pulls in Michigan and it is not uncommon to see on the list of tractors at PPL pulls close to the state many Michigan pullers. Has the PPL ever looked at Michigan or IS considering even having one pull in Michigan?

Unless you are in Division I classes where they check RPM's and possibly put the winning tractor on the dyno, there is no such thing as a cheap class. There are very few super stocks left that are still running stock blocks with two or three chargers. Naturally aspirated modifieds with the exception of economy modified classes are a thing of the past. Even the lighter weight classes which we

There are many variables that affect the distance on today's dynamic sleds. Where the switch is placed for the pan to drop, to the gear selection, to the digger bars, even to the amount and location of the weight in the weight box. Another problem with these farm classes is that they tend to be road building classes, where unless the track is so dry that it falls apart as the class progresse

Is that with turbo? Cause if so I am wondering how far it could go naturally aspirated.

My family has used our pulling tractors for farming. Our Div 1 has done baling quite well, our Div 3 tractor we use for backing in hay wagons and moving them to the elevator. My brother has hooked his Div 3 tractor up to a rake before.

I was looking at the MTTPA LLSS rules and saw two diesel cubic inch rules and one had a grandfather clause in it. Are newer tractors no longer able to run with a 470 diesel or is it you can run it just without intercooler?

My guess it wouldn't be too difficult to bore a 451 to get 466. I am not 100% positive but I believe the 451 like most Case blocks has a cast iron camshaft. So it would be best to get a billet cam made for it or even a steel cam. I've talked to a man that builds and deals with Super Farms all the time and the cost he gave me to build a competive Case is around the same price it would be
