I think the conversation begins and ends with a Moline UDLX.
A UDLX-OPN inspired pulling tractor would rreally slick.
On my personal bucket list I is a gas or lp 1100 Massey...not a real good farm tractor but the Wauk engine makes them cool.

So, how did we get in this pickle? I'd like some thoughtful answers.
All I know - with a fan-first mentality - is that 10-15 years ago I could count around 50 active tractors in Kentucky, Beyond that, I remember there were seven different IH engine platforms at play at one event, and nice color in the class beyond that. You know, that stuff they call "variety" at no more than 6250#.

I've seen a 98 year old man pull in person, and he pulled at the age of 100 on his Massey Harris 44; he died at the ripe old age of 102. Otto Graep from Washington State.
He was vibrant and full of life the last time I saw him, as much as other 30-40 years younger than he was.
I've also seen a man on an antique Oliver having to lift his leg, by hand, up onto the clutch pedal. He w

Patches,
All that matters is what the laser says, within thousandths of a foot if necessary. Sled sits at starting line, laser set/reset, sled pulled, sled stops, laser measures. sled returns to starting line, repeat as needed. It removes as much human variability as possible in obtaining accurate, reliable, repeatable distances.
Using chalk lines requires more human interaction and prod

Anytime you mix adrenaline and endorphins it costs money to keep up to feed the need, I don't care what's competing. Chasing that natural high of a roaring crowd over the sound of an engine has got to be the ultimate rush, and you can't blame anyone spending coin to do it.
Good luck overcoming human nature.

There are some great track crews in the world of pulling and yoa select few are as well prepared as the Blue Shirts. They have gone from having a creek running down the side of the south track to pulling a few hours later.
Don't count them out. Watching them work the track back together is a show in itself.

I have typed and deleted on this a couple times and it boils down to a balancing act of interests, for my case anyway. My wife is a quilter and a baker; so, whenever we're headed to a pull she's scouting out quilt stores and I'm happy to stop and let her take a look..or if she sees a bakery she wants to visit, we stop. She gets something out of the trip as I do, its not a one-way

Such a loaded question, and as Patches offered, if I were using one daily its an 1850 with the Perkins for me - I rode on the fender and eventually drove one many a day as a kid.
The Oliver platform is such a plug and play chassis you can go in any direction...and precisely why you see so many Cummins re-powers today.

Former puller Joel Armistead gave me a thumb drive this weekend with the linked video below on it with only one request - to share it with everyone.
I'm glad to do so, it is vintage pulling at the Robertson County Fairgrounds from the late Seventies, he believed it was 1979.
While you're recovering from Farm Show Week as I am, take a moment to watch this glimpse into the past.
