Anyone know the factory specified Rolling Circumference of 18.4xR38 BFG Powersavers? I know that Firestone 18.4x38 Radial All Traction publish a Rolling Circumference of 206 but I know the BFGs are bigger but was hoping someone knew exactly what the published Rolling Circumference is. I’d also like to know the Plate Area if that’s known too.
Any help would be much appreciated.
Thanks guys

I believe he had major damage to the motor, so I’d imagine he’ll be out for the rest of the year. Wasn’t at the Pull he broke, so I’m not sure what happened, but that was what I had last heard.

Include the seat in the ticket cost like they used to. You used to only have to pay extra for the covered grandstand. I liked that. Why should the people baking in the sun pay the same as the guys under the roof.

What pressures are you running right now? Front pressure shouldn’t matter too much. I wouldn’t go to max up front but you don’t need them flat. I’d air them up til they look like you like so you can steer some.
As far as rears, I can’t tell you honestly because I’m still learning mine as well. I know the biased ply 18.4s we had did well at 12 psi. Running radials now and 12 was too much I thi

That’s a good point but you have me a good starting point. So 16 might give it too much bounce?

Hey guys. Putting Radials on the Hot Rod V8. Have never run Radials with the high wheel speed machines, only stock tractors. So how much air pressure should I start with? The tractor weighs 6500 lbs.
The biased tires that we had on it were right at 12 pounds and seemed to bite well. Those were self done full cuts. The Radials going on it were professionally double cut. I was thinking of going

If I could change thing, I would have more events that are “Diesel Nights/Smoker Nights” and/or Truck Night/Tractor Night. That way, as a fan, I can pay my hard earned money to enjoy every pass down the track. There are some shows that I go to, that I’m just not into the class that is pulling. I know that’s tough though because “different strokes for different folks”. Just my personal opinion on

Yep. And then you start breaking other parts because those rearends are stout but that’s hard on those tractors. Broken Hubs, gears, etc.

Plum, I agree with you too. That Iron Heads rule is tough. It’s so hard to find good iron heads. Then when you do, they’re expensive to make competitive. They’d be better off running aluminum and it’d be cheaper in the long run. Keep cost down with the RPM limit.

I personally think 40K is high. I know of several that have less than 20K in them that are competitive. Maybe don’t win everytime but still do well. It just depends on what knowledge you have, who builds it for you, how many mistakes you make along the way, how many parts you have access to. But 40K seems high to me. The 2 I know that are for sale are for sale for less than half that.

I actually know of 2 that are for sale in PA. It’s have to be Big Block Rules, though. As everyone knows, nothing in Pulling is cheap but it is a rather economical class. One tractor for sale is a Ford Powered Cockshutt and the other is a Ford Powered Ford 6000. Both have 502s and Slipper Clutches. If you’re interested, let me know

Let’s hope they have that many. That’d be fantastic. I definitely think that the class has some potential but you have to have the machines. Good luck this season!

I saw that after I read your post. I like some of the changes that were made. How many tractors are running in the class now? Do you know?

I think NWPA is the only club running the Tough Farm. That is the original set of rules. I know who wrote them. I think they eventually voted to remove Hydraulics and PTO. But they were originally supposed to be present.
I think it’s NWPA only because they had some tractors that were built that didn’t really fit in Farm stock but couldn’t compete in a Hot Farm or Heavy, Big CI class. They are

That’s fine. Like I said, it’s nice to see some variety. I guess a guy isn’t allowed to be excited about that and re-iterate that he isn’t hating on an IH. I’m not arguing that the 466 is bad or that the 8.3 is hands down superior. I’m just trying to mention the other side.
I guess now all I have to to do is find 2 Case IH MX or 7220s, etc. powered by an 8.3 out of 1000 on the track....

That’s a pretty high percentage. That 466 is great, no doubt, but I don’t know how accurate that is. Plus it wouldn’t be an option if the engine has to match the tractor. If that’s the case, you can’t run a 466 in a 7220 or MX, etc.
All I’m saying is that that 8.3 is probably used more than we realize and has more potential than it maybe gets credit for. Again, not knocking anybody else. That

All of the MX tractors have that same motor. Case IH used that motor for several years in their machines. It’s the big brother to the 5.9. I’m not hating on red or green or any brand. I’m just saying that Case IHs used that same motor so it shouldn’t be a complete shock.

I’m not sure why everyone is so surprised. That engine has done the same thing for many a Red tractor. There’s a reason that a Cummins is about the only engine that you see consistently winning. It’s the mark the other makes are chasing. At least in the diesel trucks.
Give an Oliver or White a little time with that engine and they’ll be right in the thick of it. I just don’t think you see it

Plum Krazy and Dirtfarmer. Thanks for the insights. Everything your saying is making sense. Plum, tor last sentence is exactly my concern. I could spend all kinds of money to re-gear it and still be wrong. I feel like I’m getting close. I know I’m in the ballpark with the 34s so maybe I need to exhaust all of my options with that before I try anything else. Thanks for all of the insight everyone.

It’s an 88 rear end with the Row Crop Ring and Pinion. It did well with 34s before. But nervous to try Radial 34s. But kinda want to take the plunge too. If I can find a set, I may give it a try. I guess there’s only one real way to find out. But I wanted opinions before I did. But sounds like there’s lots of schools of thought.

Black Stack, I like that idea. Unfortunately we’re not allowed 20.8s. Have to be 18.4s.
I think we may have to re-gear in the offseason but I was hoping the 34s would be the ticket...If for nothing else, this year.
You guys don’t think I should look for a set of 34s then?

I have a tractor in the Hot Rod V8 tractor class. (Big Block). We’re allowe to run cut 18.4 x 38s max. My tractor has a gearing issue so I can’t run 38s and be competitive. The question is, if I go from a 38 biased to a 34 Radial, will I still be unable to turn them at the speed I need to to get my momentum going? I’ve never run Radials before.
I’m leaning toward having them professionally Do
