Is ther any way to put a bigger oil pan on a 4020 other than finding an m&w pan?

Use a 4430,4630 style pan.

can use an oil filter and base from a 341 power unit used in a 105 combine if you can find them

I have all the bolts loose on the oilpan on my 4020 ,still won't come down. Does the filter casing have to n\be taken loose also?

My mistake, the 404 diesel engine used in a 105 combine (typing fingers do not follow the brain well).

The gas 180 or diesel 202 engine used in the 2020 used a common four cylinder Dubuque engine tin oil pan same as many four cylinder Dubuque built tractors like the 2030, 2440, 2640, ECT. You also as an option can replace the tin pan with a cast iron reinforced pan as used on the 2510/2520 and the 401 industrial tractors (hard to find). To see common model that same parts will fit just do a where used with original part number on John Deere web parts page and let it tell you everything you want to know in parts commonality. To mount the engine oil filter external: The oil pump is different along with the oil cooler and filter mounting. These parts are common on 341/362/404 combine engines. The time you find good parts that have not laid in the dirt/moisture and a larger pan, and a oil sump to accommodate what ever pan you chose to use, it might be better/easier to buy the M&W pan. Let me know if you want one. I got a like new M&W pan ready to direct fit. $2200.00 three one 9 3 eight nine six one 3 one. DW

what year 4020? 64-68 use 8qt.pan 69-72 use12 qt. pan

The 69/72 used a 12guart pan which had filter in pan the 4320 had external oil filter.I had a couple pans that went for $250 quickly.The M&W 20 guart pans bring $500/1000 and when I bought one 40 some years ago seemed like they were $300 new.
