Triple 6 chassis and engine advice

Picked up a cheap 656 tractor with a gas motor. To make it a competative 6 to 7k lbs tractor would you be better of with a red diamond gas job, or look for a dt 360 motor. I only know of two of these in my area. One diesel and one on alcohol, and both running high rpms. Is there any around your neck of the woods that you would consider a well built light open farm tractor? Any advise would be great! |

I kinda wanted to build a 666 for a "Light 3000 RPM" tractor around here, putting a 3LM & a 13mm pump on a 360. Never tried it. My biggest concern would be the tranny & rear end. |

Those were my thoughts. Turbo or non turbo I think it would be a fun little build. Pet project really. I have 806 frame rails and a 407 natural out of a 856 that I would like to use for something. A 360 wouldnt be to hard to locate either. With a ta eliminator, could the powerplant out of an 856 be bolted up to the rearend and pulled in light open farm classes? |

You would need a 560's T/A housing and rear end to get it bolted up to a 407. 460/656/666/686 all have the really small clutch housing, and won't bolt up to a 407. 560 had the large bellhousing pattern that you need to mate up to a 407's rear engine plate. A 400/450 rear end would work as well. |

A stock 666 rear end would not hold up. One with a needled cross would. Kenny Sanders from Iowa had 666 with a 360 and four turbos that ran ntpa grand national back when it was 5500 and it held up well. |

I run a triple 6 rearend witha ag 360 motor, I have a double disk clutch with stock pressure plate have a needled rearend and i made the bottoma shaft of the tranny soilid by pressing a peice of steel inside it. The motor has a 3lm with a 13mm model 100 head has 466 vavles and i have a diffrent cam. Also I speed up the constant mesh. I run 4 1/2 with 20.38 in the 600lb all the way up to 7500 Heres a link so you can see how it runs. [www.youtube.com] |
