Atlas $100 ....

Re: Who Hardens Connecting Rods? January 29, 2012 05:58AM
Does that include new bolts and wrist pin bushings?

You need a jig or there is a possibility that they will warp and then they are junk so make sure you get a someone that has done this before. Pay a little more now or a lot later.

anyone using cryogenics on rods?

Re: Who Hardens Connecting Rods? February 09, 2012 10:19AM
i used the cryo treatment process on rods and have had very good luck with them,

Re: I do February 09, 2012 01:32PM
Thanks JR, I'll do them. Takes 2 to 3 days. (Once there here). Thats all I do to the rods, just Heat treat, Quench, and Temper. someone else will have to size them. I don't have a rod hone for that. It's 220.00 for a set of 6 or 8, and free shipping back to you. US Only.

Re: I do February 09, 2012 02:34PM
Or u can cryo treat them for about $75 and no honing needed.

Re: I do February 09, 2012 06:06PM
Heck yea, 75 bucks for Cryo, and you don't have to resize them. I'd like to do a 100 ton side beam break test on that. Does anyone have side by side test info ?

Re: I do February 10, 2012 12:05AM
I don't see how cyro can come even close to adding as much strength as heat treat. From my understanding cyro just reorganizes grain structure. Heat treating a rod up to 40rc probably adds 40 to 50 percent more strength. Be interested to hear some opinions on this

Re: I do February 10, 2012 02:05PM
I'm just cuious what needs to be done after hardening. Is it as simple as resizing the big end and rebushing the small end? Do they stay straight during hardening? Do the sides need to be reground? Shotblasted? Any info would be great. Thanks

Superior metal treating Kansas city $65 a set, machine shop replaced pin bushings and resized journals still straight no problems
