NQS 1150# Open SUPER STOCK Diesel Class February 22, 2012 11:12AM
Questions for those that are pulling in this class:
What type of transmission and clutch is commonly used in this class?
Where is a good starting point when choosing an engine (yanmar? kubota? etc....) Rules around here say I can run up to 92 cubic inches. ( If that helps)
Do you reccomend using a component chassis? Or a stock garden tractor chassis like a cub cadet?

Thanks in advance!

NQS open superstock:75 cu in., use cub trans with planateries, componet type chassis, clutch your choice, yanmar strongest but don't live.

What engine do you suggest going with?
The two classes that are around this area are a 66 ci and a 92 cubic inch limit.
Not sure what direction to head to as there is not anyone in this area that has diesel garden pullers.

Re: NQS 1150# Open SUPER STOCK Diesel Class February 23, 2012 12:54PM
Use the Yanmar 3TNE84. It's 91.5 cubic inches. The rods suck and need work, But you won't break the block like a 3TNE78. The Yanmar is direct injected while the Kubota in an indirect injected engine. HUGE difference. Plus the Kubota uses a cam box style pump that is limited on it's output and costs big bucks to make work. The Yanmar uses a external injection pump and has many options to get tons of fuel.

Thank you for the info!

Not sure where you are located, haven't heard those specific rules and have built parts for diesel garden tractors from Maine to Colorado. If you are thinking of pulling at NQS series or Columbus Winter Nationals you may want to build something that falls into their rules.

I see guys build these things all the time and don't build to a specific set of rules and then have no place to pull in a class w/o pulling exhibition. Just sayin. Have fun whatever.

What about the little CAT's that they are putting in dixi choppers and bad boy mowers? external in-line pump from the out side looks like it would be a cool little motor to put in a puller!!

cat engine 1.6L= about 100 cu in. alittle too large for NQS!

What are the guys useing ov seas for there small diesel tractors?? look like there making a lot of power over there

Re: NQS 1150# Open SUPER STOCK Diesel Class February 24, 2012 09:06AM
VW TDI or Peugeot. Those are more a compact tractor class, not a garden tractor class, two different animals.

Re: NQS 1150# Open SUPER STOCK Diesel Class February 26, 2012 04:48AM
Who all makes parts or works on pumps for these compact diesel tractors??

Re: NQS 1150# Open SUPER STOCK Diesel Class February 26, 2012 05:59AM
We make a number of parts. Columbus Diesel and Scheids do pump and injector work. If allowed, 3 cyl Bosch A pumps are grafted on.

Could yall build a tube chassis?

Re: NQS 1150# Open SUPER STOCK Diesel Class February 26, 2012 07:22AM
Not legal anywhere around here.

Re: NQS 1150# Open SUPER STOCK Diesel Class February 26, 2012 07:22AM
As stated early you need to figure where u want to pull. Most guys don't like to travel 3 to 12 hours or more to a pull.
Nqs offers a set of rules that allows tractors from across the midwest to pull competitivly at various events through out the year.
The rules are tailored towards tractors that are pulling a sled built for the speed and weight of 1/4 scale tractors.
If you are interested go NQS pulling.org and click on rules.
