I have an 8.1 crank and was wondering what it takes to put this in my 4440 with the 466 block. Is this possible without any modifications? Has anyone else done this? Thanks in advance. |

Yes it can be done I had one myself. First you need a crank driven oil pump block. Then you turn the mains down a half an inch. If you want to talk give me a call Jeff @ 920-366-0609 |

Will the head from an 8.1 bolt up? Does the 8.1 head flow any better? and were there ever any mechanicaly fueled 8.1's (a or p pumps)? |

The 8.1L head will interchange... Lots of P pump 8.1L's out there... the 8000's and 8010's where Electronic Governored, but still a P-pump (except early 8100;s).. lots of OEM full mechanical engines, large 7010's, and others..
I've never seen an A pump 8.1L engine... |

So does the head flow better? what are the pro's and con's of the 8.1 vs. the 466? |

the 8.1 and the 55 heads in stock trim flow almost exactly no change, the 55 is a little better to port because of intake port difference, remember if you turn the mains to fit the 466 you will be through the hardness of the crank journals so your bearing life may not be as good but this is realy the only concern, while your at it might as well stroke it a little, throw in some binder rods drop in 4.750 bore sleeves and make a 585. just a thought. |

You can do it with the cam driven block also, just have to grind on the web by the oil pump a little.. Instead of grinding the crank you can get bearings 4 it $$$$$$$ or you can simply line bore the block |

Which main bearings do you get to put the 8.1L crank in a 466 block? Will the bearings need honed/resized for the crank to have the right oil clearances? Or will the block need work for the 8.1L bearings to fit? |
