navstar engines
|
I know the heads and intakes are different than the traditional DT engines. How do they flow in comparison and has anyone tried using them in pulling applications? I can only assume the big dogs of the sport that run these engines are using aluminum heads and since I'm kinda small timing I thought I would ask the pull off readers. Thanks for any help. |

heads are same bolt pattern the wrist pins are bigger than a ih dt and the cranks out of a nav/ will not swing in a ih dt |
International / Navistar cranks

Hi,
will a Navistar 5.75 crank fit in a International DT466 block? And is that crank good enough for Alcohol Super Stock anyway? I have been told that the original DT466 cranks were as tough as they get, but if the new cranks are less durable, there is no point in trying anyway. Thanks in advance. |

What would have to be changed to swing a Navistar 5.75 crank in a DT466 block?? Edited 2 time(s). Last edit at 01/09/2014 06:10PM by Martin Rahbek. |

466 block runs main caps designed to accept the factory crank main journals of roughly 3.375". The 40 series detroit labeled navistar engines as well as the newer yet Maxxforce engines all maintain the same bore center spacing, however- the rod and main bearings get larger as you move to the more recent engines. Maxxforce DT/ 9/ 10 engines all use a 4" main journal. Not to question you, or your ideas, but why go through all the work of cutting the crank down to fit the block, or boring out main caps to fit the crank? Why not just use a modern block and reap the benefits of its bulletproof bottom end? I dont know how well the newer cranks will hold up, but I intend to find out. They are forged in the same factory as all of the duramax cranks. They look good. The noses are identical on all series engines, so your taper lock hub and everything will swap. The newer cranks however run a massive 12 bolt flywheel flange, and will require a special rear engine plate. Do your alkie superstock rules allow you to cross blocks? |

What are the valve sizes in a dt466e, what years had injectors in top under valve covers? |

has anyone ever machined the NGD Dt 466 sleeves to fit the ih dt466 4.3 bore block? |

What are you trying to build? |

looking to get close to 504 cubes.436 crank and the 4.59 bore sleeve would be somewhere around 497 cubes i think. What is piston pin size on ngd 466 piston? |
Re: International / Navistar cranks

why not
|
4.625 bore on your 436 crank. |

Would the sleeves not get a little skinny?Don't want to bore block. |

Sorry,in a unlimited rpm and unlimited turbo class,8000 lbs |

Hate to tell ya but boring the block is gonna be happen when you use the sleeves you are talking about. No matter what money WILL be spent on either machine work (to make sleeves work) OR spent on darton sleeves because they are thin BUT I'm not certain they make a sleeve that fits and has a 4.625 bore.
I have used the new style sleeves in an engine (stock 466 crank with 4.58 bore pistons and sleeves) THEN you get to spend money rods to make that deal work because of wristpin size and location. So in reality you can start with the good parts OR wish you did personally I wont build another with those parts |

the 5.75" stroke will fit in with some grinding on the side of the block, using stock rods dt 466 pistons cut to fit.that will get you around 505 cid.
the crank i am referring to is a 466 crank stroked. the newer crank i haven't ever done. |

turn sleeves down (no block boring) Take pistons Mill out centers to fit stock dt 466 rods. ( just even the V space up) Then take the stock wrist dt 466 ones and machine end caps for them to fit the Navistar pistons. Or make sleeves and tig weld them into the piston to use the stock wrist pins. Should be able to do most of this yourself or a little to no cost (Shane O should use this to get his on the track lol) |

DT408E---DT466E---DT530E are all the same block. |
