Non turbo diesel cam question August 10, 2013 04:20PM
so my cam grinder wants 105 degree centerline and i can get 109 or 99 degree centerline with the stock gear
Now i know i need a adjustable gear but i got a minne d585 so it will be custom.... I think 109 is fine for now if i feel its hurting i can always put one on or am i going to bleed off to much pressure with it being at 109 and run poorly??

Retarding the cam will give it more top end, your probably not running high rpms, make an offset key to get you to the 105.

If the cam grinder says to put it in at 105, then that's where it needs to be. Seen a lot of guys over the years shoot themselves in the foot trying to go against the grain.

talked to the cam grinder today and he though 109 should be fine i have to lash my intake valve a little loose to give me some more valve to piston clearance, if it runs bad i will just change it

Can't you just use an offset key and get it right the first time??

on a low rpm engine build, (tractor pulling with rpm limits) I would want to be on the advanced side of the recomendation, not on the retarded side.
