need more out of s gas 263 December 06, 2015 12:02AM
Trying get a few more out of my 706. What options do I have ? (Other than getting a 1066). It' a stock motor with the head shaved down to the max. I pull it twice a year. Thanks....

Not much. If it is in correct "tune" with ignition timing set to spec, the only thing would be a larger venturi in the carb. Maybe an 806/856 carb ??

Without changing engines you better hope a m farmall don't decide to add weight

If you're not going to swap it out for a diesel engine the very least you can do is switch to a custom piston and run a little higher compression and a reground cam.

hard to get more out of a 263 without cheating or a turbo, maybe both

Looked into that Keystone Turbo kit. I've heard guys have had trouble keeping head gaskets on them. And I'd still be way behind those Goshen guys. Maybe a nice 1466 will show up under the Christmas tree.......

Is pulling the sleeves out of the block and running 301 pistons not an option?

Re: need more out of s gas 263 December 09, 2015 09:24PM
I think so, and rejetting the carburetor, too. Or at least putting the 291 sleeves and pistons. Still would have to pull the block out and have it rehired, either way.

Re: need more out of s gas 263 December 12, 2015 11:01AM
The 263 sleeve has a large counterbore and the 301 bore will not clean that counter bore up. The 291 sleeve will not clean that counter bore up either. The lip on the 263 sleeve is larger than the lip on the 291. There is one sleeve that can be used!!!! Call me if your serious about doing this. 810 392 7123. Ed Shoobridge. If your going to take the block out of the tractor, get a C301 block, use a chevy truck 366 piston 3.94 that will give u 325 cu in. modifications will have to be made to the pistons.

I did exactly what ed is saying. Makes a good strong little engine.

I also did what Ed is saying. I got alot of good advice from him & Redpuller460. And it was FREE! They both helped me alot. The only problem I had was getting the octane up high enough to get max. hp out of it. I am running 102 octane , 10.6 to 1, 2,000 rpm, 103hp in a 560. That is with a cam and a little head work. If you are still using the 706 and not pullin it much the cheapest & easy think to do is drop in the 806 pistons. You don't have sleeves to pay for. I did use my c-263 block & a head gasket from Murphy's. Good luck

Can you put a 4 inch flanged sleeve in a 263 block?

Re: need more out of s gas 263 December 13, 2015 12:08PM
To my knowledge, which isn't much, boring a c263 block just to 4" is pretty risky. People claim breaking though is pretty high. I know Ed would advise to have the wall thickness checked first, and you could hard block it. The c301 block I understand is a little bit thicker.

Since we are on a roll here, would just bolting on a 806 carburetor work ?

Re: need more out of s gas 263 December 13, 2015 12:15PM
I myself would say no gain. I have ran both a 706 & 806 carbs and had no change on the dyno. But the 806 carb is what you would want if you had a choice.
