fitting hx40 onto 466 deere

i have a 4440 and made some minor upgrades and now am trying to fit an hx40 to the engine.
i have the stock water manifold, intake and exhaust manifolds. the only problem is when i turn the compressor housing to go to the intake it hits the water manifold. i know a 1/2" flange spacer will lift the turbo far enough to where it will work but it gets close to the hood and i dont want to burn the hood. looking for ideas that people had/tried for working the water manifold. |

On my 4430 I cut the square cast water pipe off that goes inbetween the two upright pedistals that lead to the thermostats. I welded a square plug on each end and then welded a 3/4 metal nipple in each patch in the corner farthest away from the compressor housing. Put in a piece of heater hose and that was it. Works great. |

Just grind a bevel on the bottom of the water manifolds and lean them over out of the way, its a simple fix. lay a straight edge across both as you grind to keep them both on the same angle. probilty about 1/8 to nothing will work. its been a couple years since I did one but I think stock gaskets will still work. |

I have plates machined to tilt the water manifold away from the turbo. Bolts between the water manifold and head. Only requires a extra set of gaskets. we used to machine the water manifold to 23degrees to tilt away and now began doing this . much easier and doesn't alter your original components.

All great ideas, thank you very much. The angle seems to be the best for me. I have an extra water manifold so I may have mine machined. I'll keep your number on hand mueller. |

How much of an upgrade is a HX 40 on a 466 |

We mounted a couple onto our 55 series tractors and had a great improvement. We're running hx40 with 16sqcm turbine housings.
Response is better and egt dropped a lot. |

Would the hx40 be an upgrade on a 4250? Looking at a 200hp limit for farm stock |

What size turbos are factory on a 466 most generally |

TO4, 3LM? |

Would a 466 3lm make any difference over the stock turbo? I know they are a t4 foot where stock is t3 so I'd have to get an adaptor |

yes a 3lm 466 is very good upgrade on a SBJD. I switched from the factory T04 to a 3lm 33 originally(produced around 25psi boost and lowered my EGTs). was ok but not a huge difference. finally put a 55 series exhaust manifold, 3lm 466 turbo and tilted the water manifold away and it was very impressive(around 50-55 psi boost). |

Do the 55 series manifolds flow better than the 50s? How close are the turbo oil lines on the 3lm compared to the to4? Helping a friend get a 4250 together and I'm not a Deere guy |

The 55 exhaust manifold has the larger turbo foot to accept the larger turbos. the oil lines can work. either buy the 55 drain line or bend the 40/50series Drain line slightly to work. you can use the same supply line. |

how can i purchase your water manifold spacer? also on a 4250 could you give me an exact list of what is needed to make a 3lm work, 55 manifolds 55 exhaust elbow, oil line, spacer and good to go? hard install roughly how long?? |

Question was for Mueller's post about changing from TO4 to 3LM-33. |

He put the 3lm and 55 manifolds on a 4440 |
