BBJD camshaft breakage ? November 29, 2016 01:55AM
What actually causes the camshaft to break on a Big block Deere ? Cam oil pump not being used. Have broke 2 steel nosed REI's this past season.
Is it the gears climbing on each other from the torque of the inj pump being maxed out ?

Thanks for any insight

It's from the torque from the pump turning so hard. Time for a steel cam. The steel nose is not the answer, it just makes it break in the journal.

have you already went to straight cut timing gears that seemed to help with the steel nose breaking in the journal

We have found much more durability with a complete camshaft. To put a steel nose in a cast cam is only a band aid. And really for not much more you can have a billet. If your looking for a billet we can do a flat tappet or roller lifter, and we have roller lifters, and drill jig to make them work in your block. Anyone looking to upgrade give us a call, and we will get you going in the right direction.
