BBJD camshaft breakage ?

What actually causes the camshaft to break on a Big block Deere ? Cam oil pump not being used. Have broke 2 steel nosed REI's this past season.
Is it the gears climbing on each other from the torque of the inj pump being maxed out ? Thanks for any insight |

Steel

It's from the torque from the pump turning so hard. Time for a steel cam. The steel nose is not the answer, it just makes it break in the journal. |

have you already went to straight cut timing gears that seemed to help with the steel nose breaking in the journal |

We have found much more durability with a complete camshaft. To put a steel nose in a cast cam is only a band aid. And really for not much more you can have a billet. If your looking for a billet we can do a flat tappet or roller lifter, and we have roller lifters, and drill jig to make them work in your block. Anyone looking to upgrade give us a call, and we will get you going in the right direction. |
