Tubular frame questions October 03, 2017 02:26PM
What are the advantages and disadvantages of a tube frame vs a channel frame other than weight?

Depends on class and weight. For an ag chassis im not sure there is much difference unless its a light class then weight and strength.

9000 lb hot farm/light limited prostock. 466, 3x3 turbo, p pump, unlimited rpm.

Id spend my money on dyno time and good engine parts before I worried about my frame. 50hp on the dyno will shine more than some fancy frame on a hot farm tractor.

Can you build one out of square tubing and be just as good

Post what type tractor you have and what you are looking for someone is always selling on here usually can buy it cheaper than you can build it

Round tube is stronger than square tube. For sheer strength purposes, always use round tube. Weight wise, for a heavier weight class, the weight you save isn't worth it. In a light class where you're scraping to get every last pound of movable weight, pounds are like gold. In a bug weight class, I'd do channel and as said above, spend the money you save in the motor.
