Farm Stock Tires Radial vs Bias

We are pulling an Oliver with a 5.9 Cummins (small turbo, rotary pump) in a no speed limit 7k and 8k pulling classes. We are limited to 18.4 x 38 tires, no cuts allowed, would you prefer radial or bias ply tires and why?
Thanks Rich |

I dont know of 1 reason other than weight to run bias tires. Bias tires will be lighter, but you get way more footprint with radial tires. |

When I switched to radials on my 12000# 12mph tractor the difference was very noticeable, More bite further down the track, My big adjustment is getting the air pressure right to avoid power hop. |

I agree, seems like the radials are harder to get tire pressure set, 2 psi either way seems to make a big difference. I’ve always been told to run lots of air pressure but 16-18 psi seems to work in the 9000-11000 pound classes. They will squat a little at 16 and are solid at 18.probably would not have to run near that much air pressure in the 7000/8000 pound classes? |

My 7000# 666 with 20.8 38 radials at 19psi would hop so hard that all 4 tires would be off the ground. At 25psi she would just hunker down and pull, very happy with those tires. |

On our 23 degree Firestone radials we run between 14 and 16 psi at 12000 lbs and it never hops |

You guys do understand that radials are designed to be run at plus or minus 25 psi right? I ran my radials at 24 psi ALWAYS and they were perfect. No hop and would hook on a sand trail |

I have had great luck with bias play Goodyear dyna torques. That's what I would reccomend to all my competitors. |

Yes and the biases dont jump either. Field and Road Firestones are my pick. Or BFG Silvertowns. Get you some that are road worn as Lewis said, you won't be disappointed. You can run a lower pressure to get them to hunker down and pull without the bounce. |
