Weight of JD Blocks? March 10, 2021 05:20AM
Can someone tell me the weight of the various JD small blocks? 404"s, 466's, 8.1's? I know there are several variations of each of those. Any information would be helpful. Thank you in advance!

This will only help with part of your ask:

- 6059 (359 ci) approx 1150 pounds dry
- 6068 (414 ci) approx 1250 pounds dry
- 6076 (466 ci) approx 1850 pounds dry (structural/heavy block)
- 6076 (466 ci) approx 1600 pounds dry (non- structural block)
- 6081 (496 ci) approx 1650 pounds dry
- 6090 (548 ci) approx 2000 pounds dry

I should point out these are "complete" engine weights, not just the block.

I don't have 404 weights. There will be a few as there are different blocks used over 20 years.

What’s the difference between a structural block and non structural block? How do you tell the difference? I have heard of this before but so far nobody can tell me.
Thanks

As I understand it, the one on the left is a non structural, and the one on the right is structural (also often the "large" bolt pattern). Someone may disagree, but I know there's a definite weight difference on the two.

Hope this helps.

From what is your left, nonstructural, block from? The right picture looks like a typical tractor block.

At the pri show the eburg block claimed to be 400 lbs heavier than a standard tractor block.

You'll find that non structural 7.6 block in some 95/9600 combines for sure. I don't know specifically all applications that carried that block. But also likely in some cotton pickers and forestry applications.

Yes, the Eburg after market block is heavier for sure. Don't know the weight. Has heavier main caps with bolts @ 90° externally as well I think . I also believe it has increased deck height already built in? Or maybe that was on optional order item? Been a few years since I seen it. It seemed to be more of a Pro Stock/Super Stock type of application to me.
