Why aren’t downdraft carburetors allowed in so many antique clubs?

Maybe because the stock carbs were updraft?

I can totally agree with that logic in divisions 1&2 but not in the open classes. They have farmall 460s and 560s with 806 engines and 501 red diamond engines I even saw guys with DT466s converted to gas. The point I’m trying to make is there is nothing stock or even stock appearing about them so why waste time and money on airplane updraft carburetors when you could simply by whatever size you need at summit

For 1/2 the price too

Exactly, much like open speed classes that will not allow cut tires, or only top cuts. Why do we insist on driving the cost of these antique pullers higher?

Full cuts are way cheaper than non cuts,if you want good tires, and are willing to get dirty
