Deere 466 A to P pump swap March 17, 2021 06:08AM
What does it take to swap a 6466 Deere from an A pump to a P pump? Will the P bolt in place of the A with the P gear or is the block different?

The short answer is no, a P pump will not 'bolt on' an A pump block.

Blocks are different. Hole for pump hub are different size and bolt pattern is bigger for p series pump. You will have to enlarge the hole and drill tap block for the new bolt pattern. It has been done and is semi common practice I would say

Another way is to check with an ADS station, they may be able to machine the front bearing plate of the 'P' pump to fit the 'A' pump hole so the hole in the block doesn't have to be machined. You will need to drill and tap new holes for the 'P' pump mounting and will have to use a P pump gear. I know Columbus Diesel Supply used to do this kind of work, did this to ours.

if it is a p3000, you can machine the bearing plate down to fit the pilot hole in the block, your oring groove will be gone, but just use a small amount of sealer,,works fine
