JD 5010 Farm Stock August 24, 2022 12:04PM
Was pondering about building a farm stock puller out of a wheatland 5010. My concern is fabricating a hitch. Rules state must have a working pto and can be no less then 18” from the center of the axle. Wondering if anyone has made this work and would have some pictures of what they did

"Working PTO".
Consider this, it doesn't say it must be USEABLE. just working.
Just leave a stub of the splined shaft sticking out. It doesn't have to operate anything. Just has to turn when activated.
Also, hitch length is MINIMUM. I have seen some tractors hook better with a longer hitch. I know of a good hooking hot farm deere running a 3 or 4" longer hitch.

Remember some 5010/5020’s had pto delete from the factory…

Usually if it’s a factory bare back you’re exempt from the pto and rock shaft rule ,but usually has to be a factory cover with part number on it

That usually doesn't fly. Agree with hitch length. Find the sweet spot. I ran mine about 3" more because I was nose heavy.

The pto has to be full operational in its original format. Does anyone know what it measures from the center of the axle to the tip of the pto shaft. The big sliding drawbar and blocks holding it to the rear end housing I think could be removed and hitch fabricated using existing holes

From the center of the axle housing to the back of the housing where the pto housing bolts on is around 18" on a 5020. If you have the pto in it'll be impossible to have less than 18".

I was wondering the same thing. To the original poster: Are you using a 5010 because you already have one? Or are you buying one to compete with?
