What is farm stock in your neck of the woods? If it's a 12 mph speed limit or less you'll do OK with a set of injectors and a 450 head on the rotary pump. If you have to pull 7th or higher, you're better off starting with a 531 or 619 (latter being the best option). In KY, if you can't pull road gear you'll be last. The sleds around here are setup for speed. |

Stock block or factory replacement. We can only run 7 mph. How hard is it to find a 450 head? Any idea what kind of money they go for? |

I haven't had a rotary pump worked on for pulling in a long time so I wouldn't be able to give you can accurate quote. Any reputable pump shop like Fair Valley could point you in the right direction. At 7 mph, that's probably 5th gear. Years ago I pulled 6th gear in the 13,000 and 5th in the 14,500 classes and always spun out. I was running a 3LM, 450 head, and injectors from Scheid. |

Ok thanks. What did you all need to do to get down to the 13K class? We have a 12,700 class. Tractor currently weighs 14,500 with factory cab, roll bars, me in it, 1/2 tank fuel, cast centers, 18.4x38 radials, dual hubs, and 3 pt arms still on. |

I didn't have to do much. The tractor had 9 bolt factory hubs and stamped rims. I believe we had to have the lift arms on to pull in farm stock then. I didn't have a roll bar or cab. If your tractor has no 3 point hitch and a factory non-rockshaft housing, 12,700lbs should be easy to get to and have weight to move around. It's probably been over 10 years since I pulled my tractor setup that way so my memory is a little hazy. I think I could get into a 12,500 class but not a 12k. |

I don't know where you are from, but there are some big frame John Deeres that pull in central Ohio. I believe a 6030 and maybe a 5020?
I think I have seen them run in the 10500 lb class and up. Don't know what they did, but they get down there. I'm guessing they run 7th or road gear? They pull at a pull called Glenford Lions Club in Glenford Ohio and also some county fair pulls in central Ohio. You might go to one of these pulls and try to talk to them, I'm sure they can give you some insight on loosing weight. |

Mine currently weighs 9700 lbs. If you have to pull with all the factory parts (lift arms, PTO, front axle, etc) 12,000 lbs is about as light as you can go unless you can find aluminum parts to replace the heavy cast parts up front. |

I pulled a 6030 years ago. 10000 with out driver. Took rock shaft off. took cast hubs off. used 9 bolt hubs. combine front end. Removed fuel tank. aluminum floor board. 5020 factor 500 lb lighter than 6030. |
