Six Cylinder Firing order April 14, 2024 05:36AM
What is the benefit of firing order 1,4,3,2,5,6 as opposed to the traditional 1,5,3,6,2,4?

Is that an inline 6? Or v6? Never heard of an inline 6 firing in that order. What's the application?

I'm guessing that's a v6 firing order.

It's for a pump with an originally CCW (CASE) cam rotation, being used in a CW (IH, JD) application. Engine firing order is still 1-5-3-6-2-4

So the cam can turn either rotation successfully?

If the cam is ground with the proper lobe to be a simple up/down lobe, that is symmetrical on both sides, yes. Some stock pump cams were reversible as well(original Case pumps), but most were anti-reverse cams, so the engine cannot run backwards. The engine can run backwards with a simple up/down pump cam, it'll freak you out quick! lmao!

There is an ad currently on this site for IH parts that lists fuel lines with the unusual firing order, I would assume it is for an inline 6. Maybe it is a mistake?

We had a fuel pump back in the early 2000s with an injection firing order like that. It was an early p3000 pump for an our 400 series motor.

Re: Six Cylinder Firing order April 15, 2024 12:43AM
That is not the firing order of the motor, That is what cylinder each plunger goes. Most P style pumps, you plumb the injection lines in order from front to back, plunger one to cylinder 1, plunger 2 to cylinder 2. Some aftermarket P pumps did not work like this though. 1 and 6 were still match the plunger and cylinder, but the 1-5 injection lines had to cross each other to get to their correct cylinder. That is what he means. The actual firing order of the motor is still 153624

I had a p3000 pump built ta do both left an right rotations,,there's no cut in cam to stop motor from running backwards, I run in on m.m. motor, or pull off put on my 8.3 cummins,, just switch lines around on pump ,, works grest
