Saw some pictures on Facebook from Spencer, IA that might add some fuel to the current component vs ag conversation! |

There it is, figured this would take at least 3 more hours to be on here. |

There is already a component LSS class which is what the tractor was, so go bang your drum somewhere else. If anything put specs on chassis. that tractor has 1.75" pipe chassis basically water pipe. It broke at the split in the chassis when the swiss cheese clutch housing broke. A proper 2" DOM or Chromoly chassis this doesn't happen. |

That class requires a cast rearend/transmission housing. No components allowed. It’s not the LSS class it’s the cast LSS class. |

Where's the spec?

And what was I trying to say years ago? smdh |
Component Failure

Not buying

What did you expect. Apparently you are a component supporter, and it gets under your skin when someone posts a video or picture of the almighty "component chassis" failing. I know.... it doesn't look good for the lame argument that component chassis are "safer". Don't worry it will be OK, it's Apparent that components are not any safer than ag chassis that have not been compromised. It's ok we know why component supporters truly want components and it's not for "safety ". |

Still time to delete this

The tractor that broke in half was an Ag Chassis, not component. Sorry to take the wind out of your sails… |

Where's the spec?

True and the sub frame SHOULD have kept it together. But we all know there is NO spec on that either! smdh |

Well since you asked: I’ve campaigned for components to be legal in classes for many years now. I’ve built many ag rears and saw the dangers first hand from improper lightening techniques. I’ve watched and warned about the dangers being implemented by poor rulesets both in chassis design and adopting power generation rules that further compromise an already taxed chassis. However the “I already spent the money train it’ll never happen to me” has far more passengers than the “I can see where this is going and it isn’t going to be good” train. So obviously I haven’t done enough as examples keep showing up time and time again. Maybe someday the light bulb will shine… |

spot on

You are hitting the nail squarely on the head my friend!!
Problem is there are blinders on for the safety of what is (or isn't) inside a cast rear chassis, or how much has been chewed away. Gonna take a failure with consequence to effect change. |

Well good for you but another question I have is what and whose component chassis is going to be SAFE!!!!???????? Put your money where your mouth or fingertips are and tell us all PLEASE!!!!! |

Top of page is a tab labeled business directory. Click on tab, page will open with options for whatever you may need. Honestly kinda sad this needs to be explained |

Where do you start? Which components are going to be safe? Mods have been running them for 45 years now. Everyone is pointing to Meints busting and a few years ago a Doc type rear end which utilizes 9 bolt hubs it broke a hub at an indoor pull. Ace Chassis gave a very thorough explanation on the Meints failure if memory serves me correct, they didn’t build it but were able to analyze the failure. That's two in the last 10 years. In that same 10 year period how many cast tractors have you seen have major to catastrophic failure? |

Ok, and yet more ag chassis classes are always being added to many pulling orgs that allow components. |

[fb.watch] Jake Morgan Owner, PULLOFF.COM Independent Pulling News This page is a free service. The cost is covered out of my pocket. It takes a great deal of time and a fair amount of money to keep this website going. Donations for: photos, classified ads, forum discussion, etc... are appreciated. Side Note: We are no longer accepting PayPal donations. They have changed their terms of service and stated they would fine PayPal users for spreading "misinformation" and "hate, violence, racial or other forms of intolerance that is discriminatory". PayPal did not provide definitions for some of these vague terms. Woke corporate policies regarding "misinformation" could result in an automatic fine of $2,500 which would have been removed directly from the customer’s PayPal account. PayPal did backdown from some of their policies but quietly implemented portions of them in later terms of service. A financial institute has no right to monitor social media accounts or speech. This is unacceptable and I'll no longer do business with PayPal. |

The photos I’ve seen I can’t really tell if the tube frame failed because it was welded to a piece of plate where the tractor could be split in half for service or the tubes broke off where they were welded. Either way the tube frame needs to support the tractor in case of housing failures.
The way Doug Roberts builds the cast lss chassis is the safest, the cast doesn’t do anything but hang there. |
Re: Component….
|
and so.....
|
Thus making the point of why bother with the casting at all?? What is left of said casting that is "hanging there"? |
Re: Component….
|
ITS ABOUT TIME
|
Lets just go to component in all classes and then eliminate half of them, or more. Way way way to many classes and going to all component would make it even more pointless to have so many classes. If you eliminate ag chassis you should just eliminate some of the classes all together. Simplify and streamline the rules across all sanctioning bodies and move into the future. |
Re: Component….
|
heres a though
|
How about allow components and someone develop a blue print to make ag chassis safe, if the word component scares people so much, its about safety, does someone have to die for people to be proactive? |

Many safety rules were written in blood.
Perhaps someone from Iowa can tell us about a puller named Lester Henson and how he relates to the fender rule. Ricky Long and Camille Shelton were fortunate their incidents that caused rule changes were injury-free. I was at Tomah in 1997 and saw firsthand the Randy Rose accident (with live tv coverage on TNN on the other track). I was at The Fort in 1998 when Dave Walsh"s tractor had a runaway. If he hadn't had a roll cage, who knows what would have happened. The next year, NTPA made one of their best decisions in mandating roll cages. Based on history, I fear one of these days a wheel tether rule will be written in a fan or track official's blood. Back on topic, allowing components would be wise. |

I was there on the track when it happened and am very glad, he is ok. I think maybe with these full frames like he was running, a tie bar system should overlap the bolted together section where you service the clutch. It would make that location more rigid. I also think something was already cracked as easy as it fell apart but I don't think you need to change chassis for this class. There was 13 of them there and I know there were a few missing that run that class. The Outlaws offer a LSS component class and had 4 there compared to the 13 in the AG LSS class. |
