460 Farmall questions January 21, 2010 06:09AM
in stock form what should the 221 in my 460 turn for rpm's? also, can i convert the 221 to a 291 by changing the crank and sleeves and pistons? do i have to bore the block to accept the 291 sleeves? are their any clearance issues with the bigger crank? what piston kit would i use, maybe a piston kit for a 756, and would the 221 head work with the 291 pistons, thanks for any and all help!

The 221 with the stock cam should turn around 4500 rpm with out the gov. Why not find a diff. block if you want more ci. The 301 engine is the way to go , with no sleeves to mess with . I have a 263 block with darton sleeves already at 3.9375 bore and and can be bored to 4.00 . The 3.9375 bore would put you at 320 ci with a stock crank and the 4.00 bore would put you at 330 ci with the stock crank . The block i have is for sale ! Phone 270-576-7308

thanks for the offer but i would like to stick with the block that i have, will the 291 sleeves fit the 221 block without boring it?

Not for sure on the sleeves fitting in the 221 block without machine work !
