What puts out more power

A gas engine that is 360cub in. on 40lbs of boost with a down draft carb 3000 rpm.
or
Diesel engine 360 cub in on 40lbs of boost with p-pump 3000rpm

just wondering which way to go on a new tractor which one be more reliable and cheaper to build.

a gas engine at 40 pounds of boost will blow the head right off

...................apparently you have never actually tried it then. Running 40 lbs with gas is not a problem.

Re: What puts out more power February 04, 2010 02:17AM
That is correct. There are several 6200 lb pro stock tractors in MO that run very good on gas and they are running more than 40 lbs of boost.

I use to 55 to 60 lbs. on a W D 45 with a 500 Holley 2 barrel, worked great back in the day,never had a problem,not once!!!!

Re: What puts out more power February 04, 2010 05:05AM
AAHHH...if only you could have the carb after the turbo than before it!!!!

Re: What puts out more power February 04, 2010 05:12AM
Why can't you have the carb after the turbo? I have seen several kits in the automotive world that have the "blow through" set up that works. I would check with Gale Banks or Mark Colberg to get the ball rolling (Propane goes through a carb) I would put money that if they don't have a kit, they would know who would.

Re: What puts out more power February 04, 2010 07:10AM
Rules state that the Carb has to be before the turbo....ECMTPA rules that is.

So what has more power the gas or the diesel. Only one has answered the question. And yes you can run alot more boost than 40lbs on a gas espeacialy fired ringed and girtled. I think a diesel would have more at 3000rpm. They are more in there power band. If a gas could run more rpms it would run real close maybe in the 4000 rpm range just my thought. Would be real interested in what people think.

My oversight. I didn't realize there was a rule in place to cover that.

Can you run E-85 pump gas?

Re: What puts out more power February 04, 2010 01:50PM
IPA considers E-85 a pump fuel (gasoline) If a builder were interested.
