SHOT GUN RED DID AWESOME,,, I WAS THERE,,,SEEN HIM RUN... ALSO SEEN THE FLYWHEEL COME APART...BYALL WAS THE KIID DRIVING THE 4010. HE WALKED AWAY WIITH A FRACTURE TIBIA AND LOTS OF BRUSIES..... TALKED TO HIM ON THE PHONE AND HE WAS IN GOOD SPIRITS. i HAVE PIC OF THE TRACTOR IF YOU WOULD LIKE TO SEE THEM. THE CRAZY THING ABOUT THE FLYWHEEL IIS THE BOLT WERE STILL IN THE PART OF THE FLYWHEEL AND WAS STILL ATTACHED,,, NEVER SEEN ANYTHING LIKE THIS BEFORE.

Well it sure wouldn't work in a Deere ! Deere and Cummins are as far apart as you could get. |

I know at least the 8960 and 8970 articulated tractors had Cummins in them. I don't think they were ever put in any 2wd applications, though. |

That's good to hear ! I've been a fan of Lorenz and Wilkins for years. I heard somebody say they worked for John Deere at one time. Is that true ? |

l\the orgninal owner never pulled a 4020 lornintz is the his name he ran a 466 motor...if it has a cummins in iit now then it is by new owner and that 466 motor had deere6030 pistons in it they bored the sleves and put deere pistons in it,,,, deere piston have a steel insert and they will not bust |

deeredaughter, Lorenz never owned Shotgun Red. You're talking about Sneaky Snake. Sneaky Snake is still running an IH motor. I've never heard about it having 6030 Deere pistons. I remember a 4320 JD called Deere Harvester had an IH head on a JD block. Sneaky Snake is now in Michigan in the hands of Henry Smith who has done a fine job with the tractor. |

6030 piston never fit in ih block piston dia to big 5.125 have no cylinder wall |

Actually, stock 6030 pistons are 4.75. Remember that ALL 6030's had 531 CID. Not 619 CID as many think. |

Lorenz/Wilkens pulling team did own shotgun red... for those of you who weren't around pulling back in the 70's and 80's... That tractor was Bartie Nelson's original "Dreaded Red"... Bartie was rumored to have given it back to Hypermax. Since basically everything under the hood was from Hypermax at the time. Then was sold by Hypermax to the Lorenz/Wilkens team.. |
Re: Shotgun Red

I thought somebody said Wilkins bought Shotgun Red from Bartie, because John ran it as Dreaded Red for a couple of years then switched it to Shotgun Red. John still owns Shotgun Red and he, Paul Wolfe and John Lorenz drive the tractor. |

This hand won't come up. I believe her about Sneaky Snake having Deere pistons, after all her dad knew Lorenz. pspuller, you lost my vote especially after the comment about us "couch pullers". |
Re: Shotgun Red
|
Don't know about the red ones... but I know of some retired orange pro stocks that were using 619 deere pistons. Actually had the bore and stroke to exactly match the 619. In that class there is no replacement for displacement was a closely followed rule for many years. |
Re: Shotgun Red

i think you have been told wrong or misunderstood the bore on a 619 is 5.12 [if my memory serves me]. a orange block isnt physicly big enough to take it. back in the day everyone had 4.75 bore . |
Re: Shotgun Red
|
didn't misunderstand, nor was I told wrong... both of the tractors I'm talking about happened to belong to family.
If the JD 466, and IH 466 can get to 640 and above, why do you question whether or not a 426 AC can get to 619?? |
Re: Shotgun Red
|
4010smoker

not questioning that a ac cant get to 616. it is just done with stroke not bore. and if you look at the good supers they are not close to 600cubes . if a ac is over 600 with a bore over 5.00 chances are that it is not a a** kicking pro. the the best ones i can think of is doman's and kenny and shelly briant i dout they are over 5.00 bore. the ac block looses a lot of strength when you bore it out. then you have to have main bolts that hold the head on and the block together. i could be wrong but thats what i have seen over time |
Re: Shotgun Red

No sir you are wrong, The ih, jd's and the ac used the 4.750 pistons which came in the 531 cu.in not the 619 pistons. |
Re: Shotgun Red

puller642 is right. thats what i am saying you can get ac over 600 cubes just not with 619 pistons |
