syncro trans / wet clutch August 14, 2010 06:04AM
just broke my 4430 in half, going to install 3rd disks into my wet clutch. Can anyone tell me if i'll be able to pull in 7th gear. I have a late model 466 engine in it with about 250 hp. thank.

What weight class and what sized tire? How much is done to engine? If in 9000-10000# class, it should run 7th easy.

9500/10500 class. 18.4-38 tire size. the engine is stock with a P-pump. it has about 250 hp. would love to do more with it, just not sure what to do. thanks for any help.

It will be close we run c3/4=7th on a 4430 w/404 around 400+hp 3000rpm at 9500 w/3disk clutch at 240psi we have more hp but u will have a lot more torque. It realy depends on the track and sled.

Thanks cumminsracer14. I guess what i'm really asking is, will the 3 disk clutch hold up well. i don't have the money to have the clutch hubs welded together to make a 4 disk. you said you had 240 psi are you talking about clutch pressure.

Re: syncro trans / wet clutch August 15, 2010 01:04AM
I have basically same tractor as you do, 4430 syncro range with a 466 internals on engine are completly stock I have a 400cc A pump decent set of injectors, and a big charger, I run 3000 rpm limit farm stock classes, I just ran 7th gear in 15500# class last night, I have ran and slipped out a stock clutch, you need to get those two hubs locked together, mine are not welded but bolted together with six 5/16 grade 8 bolts, drilled and tapped onto the one hub with nuts and lock tight on back side, it is really easy to do all you need it to get the two hubs square in a jig. as for valve work there is a guy in eastern PA that will rework your valve for I belive it is 2 hundred bucks, belive me if your gunna pull and plan on making any HP at all spend the money and take the time to have that clutch made into a 4 disk well worth it.....

thanks JD 4440 for the info.

Re: syncro trans / wet clutch August 15, 2010 02:29PM
we have gone through 1 3 disc in about 25-30 hooks and will be going to a 5 disc this winter and yes that is 240psi at 3000rpm on the clutch and about 195-200 at idle we run a 3000rpm class so thats where we check pressure at 3000 if u follow the book and check lower rpm than u run no load u may break the bolt holding the filter in because the pressure continues to clime most people i have talked to recomend not running over 220 the 3 disc holds much better than the stock 2 disc we ran the same pressure and burned through three clutches in 8 hooks with 3 different people setting them the 3 disc is claimed to hold at least 500+hp from what i have been told

What are you running for a bolt?

Re: syncro trans / wet clutch August 16, 2010 02:18PM
I can't believe you have not pushed the thrust brg out out yet with that much pressure! I run a 5 disk and run stock pressure and holds d3and 4 easily. I do not re do the valve body. I do all the valve work externally with linkages and no problem. all you have to do is plug off pto port. any question call my cell 812 309 3255.

Like the others have said.. U need to get the the hubs connected.. (never heard of bolting them.. but then.. I never thought about bolting them) I really is easy to get the clutches to work together..
If you have a late 466 with a P-Pump.. and have the screw turned on the pump.. I'd bet you are making more than 250Hp.. I've dynoed 4640 & 4840 in the 300hp range, with just the farmer giving it a few turns..
Send me an email.. I'll see if I can find my instructions to get the hydraulics to work together.. ..

Each disk is good for about 150hp or so @200psi in my experience. so stock 2-disk up to 300hp, 3 disk 450, 4 disk 600, 5 disk 750, 6 disk 900hp.

Re: syncro trans / wet clutch August 18, 2010 01:35PM
how come so many of the perma clutch tractors at the pulls always have their pto on?? just wondering

Re: syncro trans / wet clutch August 18, 2010 02:58PM
When you weld the hubs together.. you are welding the PTO clutch hub to the traction clutch hub.. if leave all the PTO drive line parts in.. any time the pedal is out, the pto is turning.. Once they are welded together, you change how the oil flows, so when you let off the pedal it is engaging both clutches at the same time.. power goes through the hubs to the input shaft.. The other option is to go to a custom input shaft that is splined for both hubs on to one shaft..
