don't know about a 7.6, but it is the same as an older 466 block.

I have seen two different 8.1 blocks and one was narrow and one was wide. I think it depends on what they were out of. The narrow one also had two less bolt holes where it bolts to the bellhousing.

I have used one out of a combine, and one out of an industrial eguipment. both fit fine in my frame rails, which had a 404, then 466. Only difference was old block(466) used 3/4 dia bolts and the 8.1 use's 5/8 dia bolts. The Front mounts of the 8.1 are in a slightly different location, but the back are the same. Not saying there isn't a narrow block, but i haven't run into it yet. I have the one out of the combine still that i would sell.

So what has to be done to replace a 466 with a 8.1, will the8.1 bolt up to the original rails this is a 4240
