Steering wheel disconnect July 10, 2011 10:27AM
Anyone have any good ideas on how to put a disconnect on a factory 706 hand pump. Would like to be able to move the wheel 6 inches back in the process. Just wondering how some of you have done it. Thanks in advance!

The best way to approach something like this is take a big step back and decide if you are equipped to complete such as daunting task. When you decide that you are, because every 2 bit redneck knows deep down they are equipped for anything, get out your big hammer and torch. First step is to bust that crap old steering wheel off there with your hammer. GO to AUTOZONE and buy you one of them fancy racing wheels and a roll of duck tape. Take a piece of pipe or a stick , whatever you have laying around and tape that to the back of the steering wheel and then "attach" this back to the hand pump. This beauty of this setup is you can easily disconnect the steering wheel, in-fact sometimes it will disconnect on it's own for you. You can adjust the size of the extension (stick or whatever) to whatever feels good to you, the longer the better. HAVE FUN.

have seen fellas use a 540 pto coupler for a quick disconnect, attach the splined shaft to your steering column and attach the the coupler to your steering wheel. simple push of the spring locking pin and wheel removes quite easily! hope that helps?
