Well, I am going to show up at our first event with tires I bought in 2019, so I guess the "wording" will get tested! lol I also have a relatively good set I might use if I can find another set of used wheels that are at least 5 years old. Common sense tells me that a tire that was legal in 2022, meaning Firestone, Mayhill, Pioneer, Cepek and yes, even BF Goodrich would be legal to be in compe

Not sure about Keystone, but with today's laser measurement system, the sled doesn't always take off from the same starting line position. So, one start (0 on the laser) might be a foot or so ahead or behind the start (0 on the laser) of another. Both vehicles could travel 250 or whatever and not end up in the same plane on the track. Not saying this was the issue there, but it could

It's not so much someone producing a "new" tire, but what are the true recognized specifications for an18.4x16.1 tire. Look at a Firestone 18.4 and then Cepek 18.4 and then Pioneer 18.4 and then Mayhill 18.4 and explain to me how they went from the "original" size specified for the class (front wheel steer tire on FWD combines) to the Cepek. How was the Cepek even comparable to the Firesto

Dick, It might be interesting this year because I have heard that an alcohol tractor is going to build to diesel specs and compete in the class. That is what the DSS guys have been asking for. Time will tell and we shall see.

What if, what if, what if.... the vehicle had not bounced and broke and if the vehicle had not taken the sudden turn and the tire hit the buckboard and if the vehicle had not come unhooked, there would have been no need for a kill switch.

I will stick up for the Wolverine "STATE" combo class. We use the SSCombo nomenclature to just designate that it is a tractor class (we are or have considered an Open class..TWD, Mod, FWD, Tractors). And if you think the SSD or Pro always win, better come watch. Granted, Red Line Fever or Rampage doesn't show up, but other GN SS and Pros do and sometimes get humbled by some SF (Michigan i

The kill switch did not break. The attaching ring was not constructed to spec, therefore illegal. Actually, when you think about it, to add insult to injury, the run should have been been a disqualification.

It has been a while since my class has had a rollover of this caliber, however, there have been quite a few--Swift at BG (I think or maybe Tomah), Bauer at Chapel Hill, Josh at Connersville, Rea at BG--there's been a lot. I can say, we've been there done that. For all of those, mainly the safety equipment worked. This incident had a faulty kill switch ring. The ring is supposed to b

As another FYI....the cert label inside is only an adhesive backed piece of sticker material, easily removed and done with whatever. the molded in "SNELL" certification on the back of the helmet is more permanent, however does not normally have the cert date. SNELL certifications are done every five years, hence the 2010, 2015, 2020, etc. The next date will be 2025. Anyone can make a helmet a

There are only two selectees each year. If you gang up and put in 3-4-10 a year, that's real dilution. Who, besides maybe one (and that would be political), would you exclude from the list already inducted? How quickly one is selected has no bearing on their contributions. I am sure, eventually, they will be inducted.

TOM, correct...but if you have half at one limit and half at another limit, how do you think the fans would react? Sometimes, when there are stubborn people, you just have to "do nothing" and let those "sleep in the bed they made". Can only do so much to keep an organization solvent as long as possible. As I pointed out, there are many organizations that would fill the space if any of the what

A little insight into the "phased in" idea.......it is proposed many times and the main argument is that a few competitors will make the change right away and the ones who can't or won't will then either be behind or ahead (depending on the change) for that phase in period. For instance, let's take the Pro Stock class. Say, a rule change is made to drop the cubic inches to 540 wi

In the past I have speculated on such an endeavour. Fewer "national" classes, "limited" two day schedule (weekend), only certain teams qualify and that is what they get to run (no county fair pull for them-you don't see John Force at a weekly Norwalk race), limited number in the class-maybe 10. I could see about 8-ten classes: heavy tractor class-both fuels; light tractor class-both fuels;

I will address the splitting...because not all pullers in a class nowadays want to compete at 20 or so events. In the modern world of high performance motors (at least alky style, cannot comment on diesel), 20 runs put a lot of strain on the internals. Throw in a pulloff or two and with warmup times (heat cycles), you are looking at replacing rods ($1200-2000) just to complete the season. That
