Randy Petro, hands down. A lot of the pullers mentioned haven't hooked in 15-25 years and Petro is still at it driving 1-2-3 or so vehicles at GN, SN. and regional events. JW

I agree somewhat to your opinion. But, if the competitor offers an insight, truthfully, to how his pass was, in a moderate explanation, the official should consider the input. The good officials normally know how vehicles perform. I myself talk it over with the operator and we say if test 'X' goes 220, we have a good sled, because "y" will be at 310 historically. We always fear we w

There is already enough award presentations at BG, so much so , that towards the end of the evening show, there are very few fans left to watch. How would you fit in more? There is still a lot of pulling after the NTPC. I think that all class champions will be officially "crowned" at the Enderle this year (the championships are decided before that, i.e. Semis at Hudsonville, FWD & Minis at Wau

Thanks, Jake. Been a pretty good year performance wise, not counting Wilmington. Tried to get over to see you and Dad a couple of times, but got waylaid with other issues. BG was pretty impressive this year with the exception of the LSS as everyone has noted. Boyd's UNL pass was one of the best ever--brings back memories of some "American Thunder" passes. From a driver/crew chief and track official perspective, none of us wants to put on a poor show from a fan's point of view or a safety issue. Sometimes the rythm just gets upset. It would be nice if every vehicle has a "good" run, drives off the track with no issues and there is no major track maintenance required. But, that rarely happens, especially at huge super national events and "sn

Jake, I have always believed, as you do, that the two super stock classes should be combined. There has to be a way. One of the issue to consider, I think, with the three competing, major organizations, if one would limit a class, the other or two would welcome those disgruntled pullers from the limiting organization with open arms. There is competing interests at the organizational level betw

At multi day events, if you break on the first day, you get the minimum points for the following event hook whether you hook and bump or not or whether you stay (I have first hand experience with this). The issue is if there are more than 15 in the class, then the extra points become the issue. Those 5 or so "bump"points might make the difference at the end of the year. However, your view is w

Just to be clear, because my name might be associated with a topic, does not mean that I am the instigator of that issue. Not even sure I wuld use EFI, it's all about choices. I am not the only person in favor of its use. A couple of years ago, when this issue emerged, I was asked to present the use of EFI to the NTPA Board of Directors (which is kinda one of the responsibilities of a Bo

NHRA fan, I will just take your response personally--why does the issue of EFI have to be associated with turbochargers? This bottom feeder--and not everyone can be a winner which is diametrically opposed to what a lot of you want--more equal, more fair, etc. so anyone can win--is necessary, because without the non-winners you got no show. NHRA Pro Mod EFI units might cost $16K, but not all EF

Exactly bp4455. EFI does NOT make more power in and of itself. What EFI does is allow the tuner to unleash the available power that is already there through more efficient use of the fuel, air, and spark. Is it daunting and looks complicated? Yes. But once a person feels comfortable with the system, it is just like tuning by "the seat of your pants". What I don't understand, is: if it

Turbines have different horsepower levels. To the average fan a T-64 is a T-64, but depending on which L version is employed, there is hundreds of horsepower difference. Can I tell the difference--not unless someone like Richwine, Deane, or Barga points it out. I don't have my book in front of me to see the different levels. Depending on your motor's power level and condition of the tracks you can be expecting to change the ring and pinion every 12 hooks or so. The powerglide and 9" severely limits what tire speed you can run. It's been a long time, but I would guess the final drive in the 14+ range. Use the thickest root tooth you can for the ring and the pinion--probably in the 5-something (not famili
