Depending on your motor's power level and condition of the tracks you can be expecting to change the ring and pinion every 12 hooks or so. The powerglide and 9" severely limits what tire speed you can run. It's been a long time, but I would guess the final drive in the 14+ range. Use the thickest root tooth you can for the ring and the pinion--probably in the 5-something (not famili

Nothing wrong with a KBO block, it is what you put on top of it. The good 4.84 stuff is expensive. The question I would have is why anyone would want to get in to the mini class now--lol. It is dang expensive to even compete on the brush level. JW

The 2015 certified helmets are into their third year of certification. If you find a helmet with a 2010 SNELL sticker, that means that helmet is probably over four years old. Only get a helmet with a 2015 SNELL sticker. Also, every reputable helmet will have a date of manufacture sticker somewhere close to the SNELL label. JW

Not sure where you are from, but NTPA GN minis have 20 or 21 hooks, Region 2 minis have 19 hooks, Wisconsin state has half a dozen or so, Michigan has 5 state events, PPL has about 10 hooks on the Champions Tour, and then there are the brush pullers. Not sure how many more mini hooks a person would want to see.. JW

Well, I will take a stab at the 10 pound rule....if you make the pressure high enough that no one really runs, then you have a good limit. If you made the pressure where most run the tire, then comes a guy who decides to blow up the tire after measuring and the circumference is a bigger tire. Bigger tire equals a few more inches with each rotation, hence a longer distance at a set number of tir

Do you really know how WPI stock works? Just because you buy one or more shares of stock does not give you any authority over the operation of either organization. There is really no benefit to owning WPI shares--no dividend, no increase in value. The $5K share bought ten years ago is still only worth $5k today, so actually a decrease in value. At least that is how I understand it. JW

You do realize that for a national caliber SSD, PS, etc., the tech official would be a full time job. How many times does a SSD or PS rebuild each season. Two years ago I went through five motors in just the minirod class. There are competitors that change rod bearings after every four passes in the alcohol classes. Sealing motors is not the answer. One of the reasons that turbos were unseal

Actually, it was not a rule "change". The class has always had a specification that the powerplant had to be offered in a two wheel drive tractor. Unfortunately, that specification was inadvertently missed in a rewrite and you could say a grey area of rule interpretation was wrongly allowed. This 2019 "change" takes the class to its original intent. JW

regarding hot passes, hate to tell you this, but I am pretty sure it isn't going to change. I don't have the NTPA rule book in front of me, but there is limits in there also that is included in contract language when signing sanctioning agreements. So, if your local pulls allow more hot passes and is NTPA sanctioned, consider your local pulling lucky. JW

Lewis is right. Done right, you have to show a profit in a least one of 5 years. Then you can only offset the winnings so there is no tax on those. Of course you can scam your responsibility to the US government and claim those expenses as something other than pulling expenses. I don't have a tax person, but I do have a wife that is an accountant and certified to practice (I think that i

To my knowledge, a snowmobile (dual layer) face shield does not meet the SNELL requirements. It does DOT. I may be wrong, however. Since most organizations only require helmet to be SNELL, it might not make a difference. The dual layer shield is not very impact resistant. JW

In my opinion and mine only with the 33 years I have spent in the class, no...weight will not make anything safer. As stated elsewhere, ore weight will only lead to more advancements in power and hooking to the ground better which will put more strain on parts which will lead to more breakage and the circle goes on and on. Most national vehicles are already at over 2500 gross horsepower and yes

Don't need more weight. The class has already evolved into a "point and punch" ride. For the most part, at the national levels, drivers are holding on. Sure, there are some wild rides, but not like there used to be. As technology increases, parts are more prone to breakage. It takes more and more between pass maintenance than ever before to keep these machines running. Used to be, che

It is called insurance. Is it lawful to drive your car or truck on the road without insurance? Do you have a health plan? Trust me, if you ever have an accident at an NTPA event, the $100 is a mere pittance as to what you would pay out of your pocket (most health/vehicle insurance policies won't pay for motorsports competition, by the way). Rides on air-flight choppers are not cheap, nor
