I have never been to one so how would those prices compare to going to a pro or sportsman drag racing event at that track or any other?

I always liked this class but I still think if they had capped the cubes in the sub 400 range and left it carbureted it would be a lot stronger today.

So the question is, where was your favorite track location at the Ohio State Fair? I don't remember if actual track was any good but for watching I kind of liked the north track near where the soccer stadium is now.

Kind of along the lines of this discussion, one thing that always amazes me is that the OEMs (particularly Deere) are not having an absolute meltdown about that "thing" going down the track being called a John Deere tractor. As protective as they are over their name, image and likeness I would think that they would file a copyright infringement suit on every K&K tractor ever built and somebody i

This, like everything else associated with this mess, is not real clear but it appears that the FDA approval is for ages 16 and up and still under EAU for 12-15 year olds.

That is the worst part about this whole thing, you don't know what or who to believe, way too much emotion.

I believe Ralf Hunt's truck's is Wayne Rausch's old Yellow T??? If so and there haven't been any major changes, having a chassis that was built in 1987 get a 1st and a 4th is kind of cool small story line.

QuoteGrubby Also a larger variance in changing track and weather which puts more emphasis on how lucky your draw position is instead of how good your equipment is.
But doesn't being the best of the best also mean that you are good at reading these variances and adapting to them? As many people have said on here, pulling is not just a dyno competition and it is on a dynamic dirt surface.

To clarify, are you talking about these classes from the Heart of Illinois Fair website?
1. 11klb - Stock, 2.45 turbocharger (S300 or 31m and smaller only; no larger framed turbochargers), stock appearing.
2. 13klb - Open, "run what ya brung," 20.8 tire width limit (18.4-42 and 20.8-38 or 20.8-42 ok), no RPM limit, cut tires allowed, water injection only allowed (no N20, Propane, etc.,)

Good thing they don't pull at the Ohio State Fair anymore because they pulled the plug on that today, Jr. Fair only. But keep in mind their big money shows are indoors now.

From Wikipedia:
A troll is a person who starts flame wars or intentionally upsets people on the Internet. This is typically done by posting inflammatory and digressive,[1] extraneous, or off-topic messages in an online community (such as a newsgroup, forum, chat room, or blog), with the intent of provoking readers into displaying emotional responses[2] and normalizing tangential discussion.[3]

I just wonder if there will come a day when the committee will be forced to chose classes based on what the facility will support not necessarily what classes are available. In my opinion the upper tier classes (Pro Stock; Open and Diesel Super; Mods) are to the point where they are kind of scary to cut loose in that building.

531 is not small cubic inch but I understand where you are coming from, and you are correct. I think the class would benefit greatly from a box turbo but probably too late for that.

Thank you for the hard numbers. What about maintenance wise between the three, is any one of them better (easier to maintain/more reliable) than the rest? I know all of them can break and break hard but is there one that you can just put fuel in and go or are they all about the same?

Here is just a honest question that I hope somebody could answer with facts and data: If components were legal in either 4.1 or Light Pro, why would somebody start with a ground-up build for either of those classes as apposed to a full blown Pro Stock?

Marshallville seems to be up in the air if they are going to be able to pull anymore (I hope not, good bunch of people.) The group in Sterling is Creekside Pullers and they run the same rules as Marshallville. OSATPA is out of Plain City which would not be a bad run from Mansfield. Also check out Wayne County Truck and Tractor Pullers they have a pull early spring at the Wayne County Fairgrou

I was a little backwards in that Dad and I actually started pulling in 1981 with an off-the-lawn garden tractor. I can’t really remember attending any pulls before that, we kind of just started at the local fair. The next year we built our first puller from a Cub Cadet that had been through a fire which went through many iterations before I switched to antiques. The biggest mistake I ever made

Grubby I will address one thing in you statement above. Coal was a victim of market conditions and market conditions only as technology already exists to make it a cleaner fuel source. Cheap natural gas is what killed coal (even though there are probably some politicians that took credit for it) and subsidizing it as heavily as solar and wind would have been the only way to save it. And guess w

My vote for highest percentage of pullers vs total production would be the Cockshutt 570 especially if you count all the ones where the rear ends ended up under some form of mod. Total production of the 570 was around 3100 units and the 570 Super only added another 1680.

Quote Or TIRES! If you're on 20.8s with 1700hp plus you'll not have to have the latest and greatest turbo to win. You'll have to know how to set up a tractor!
Just a question, has the appearance of purpose built 20.8 pulling tires (i.e. ProPullers etc.) made this less of a deal? It was one thing when you were running on old farm tires now I would be willing to bet on some tracks

The other thing I haven't seen mentioned is will some events have to cancel because they can not get event insurance? This was brought to light to me when a local event had to cancel saying the main reason was lack of insurance. Point being is that even if the government says go, will insurance companies dictate if a pull/fair/festival can happen?

One of the things you have to be careful of is making assumptions but since you asked.
1) Yes I have built and driven pulling vehicles. Granted on a low level but I am enough of an engineer to look at a GN Prostock and scale what I have done and fully appreciate the time, effort and money it takes to build and campaign that vehicle.
2) Yes I am a promoter, again on a small scale. But I kn
