jd rear end & tranny

Thinking about building a pulling tractor for a limited class and I have a few questions about the trans. and rearend. To start with if you have a 4430 and put 4010 planetaries on it, they will speed it up 12 percent (I think). 4430 with a 4440 two speed in a quad range will speed it up also. So my questions are if you have a 4440 with 4010 planetaries on it is that like putting both on a 4430. The 4430s the two speed was an underdrive and the 4440 the two speed was an overdrive, then they slowed it down at the planetaries. So my first question would be is this correct? My second question is, are the 4040, 4240, 4440, 4050, 4250, and 4450 all the same in this area (tranny and rearend). |

maybe it is only the 4440 and 4450 that are an overdrive? |

I'm not positive which series had the overdrive but I think JD discontinued the gearset. It a simple swap with the standard set - replace the input & output gears & turn the cluster gears over the other direction. I never heard about the finals being different so maybe they were just faster? |
