Girdle cost May 07, 2021 08:30AM
Considering putting together a DT466 for a 3500RPM open 3" turbo class. Seems to be in the territory of needing a girdle according to what I am told.

Anyone give me an idea on cost of a girdle with machine work and all? I have an idea on everything else. Thanks.

Wipe Out Enterprises has a full price sheet you can download on their website. That should give you an idea.

Kenny’s pulling parts shows one for $950.

There's allot of time and machine work to properly fit the girdle

without billet caps made to length, spacers are not recommended, and line bored with the "RIGHT" studs, it is a waste of money.

Re: Girdle cost May 10, 2021 11:22AM
Absolutely nothing wrong with using spacers. Billet caps aren’t necessary at the level he’s talking. However I agree if not done “RIGHT” it is a waste of money

Re: Girdle cost May 10, 2021 01:45PM
WHY DO IT HALF A**, WASTE MONEY ON A LAME JOB.

Re: Girdle cost May 10, 2021 01:50PM
Why type in all caps? I don’t think you understand the difference between buying stuff you don’t need and performing a process correctly

Re: Girdle cost May 10, 2021 02:36PM
Also Plum Crazy, maybe the guy is on a tight budget and cannot afford billet caps. Not everyone can afford the best of the best.

Re: Girdle cost May 11, 2021 02:02AM
spacers need to be done right and with that said all the proper machining would be near to what billets caps with no gaps would be.

Re: Girdle cost May 11, 2021 03:48AM
that's like putting in studs, but oh wait, cant' afford all of them so which ones do I not buy, half or just one?? people are funny, do it right or stay on the porch.

Re: Girdle cost May 11, 2021 04:47AM
All the proper machining for spacers is 375. That includes surfacing pan rails, surfacing main saddles, surfacing both sides of the main caps and surfacing the spacer to set girdle height. When we are done with a job all caps and spacers are the exact same thickness. Billet Caps are 1800 and still require the 375 to prep to your block and set girdle height. When done proper for the environment used there is ZERO issues using spacers. Prostocks before recast blocks used spacers.

mine cost about 2200 for an antique, with 4 mains, the old cast were worn, loose and had been moving, had little choice, line bore is a great idea,
