What do you guys think about an app that people could gamble on who wins at a pull event, i think that might draw some interest in the sport.

Re: Grow the sport gambling December 26, 2021 07:46AM
I had actually thought about this, but in pulling it would be tough to set up a site to bet, when it is tough to know who is going to go where. May work on winter invitational pulls.

I think it would work at all indoor pulls just bc you know who is there also you could bet on who wins points in ppl/NTPA or any organization also maybe bet on who gets most wins in a season

Re: Grow the sport gambling December 26, 2021 12:15PM
Could be possible with OUTLAWS as they are the only Organization currently with an App showing entries, and I think pullers have to register on the App for each Pull if they are Pulling.

Re: Grow the sport gambling December 27, 2021 01:20AM
Style of play will be pretty easy to sort out I would think. The 2 biggest hurdles I see is the aforementioned difficulty in knowing who will actually compete at post time and secondly who could possibly be employed to handicap this stuff... Sportsbooks don't just make up odds.

Could do something like dirt track racing does with DirtDraft. Add events in and lineups don't update until posted. Have until the event starts to choose your picks. Everything is based on "points", but you can redeem those points for tickets to events, live stream subscriptions, etc.

I forgot to mention in our group we do a over/under on distance.it works great to.after the class has officially started and the 1st 3 have a distance,I follow the lineup on the ntpa app (which has lineup and distance,up to real time),I throw out a distance I feel is legit, the group goes over /under on that.we only do 1$ bets

My group has done the same thing from the stands at Louisville, with me picking the distance. We have never involved money with it, just kind of a bragging rights thing. It is a blast though and makes for some interesting conversation during and after the pull.

Re: Grow the sport gambling December 26, 2021 01:42PM
The largest hurdle is that many states still do not have legal gaming (betting specifically) available.

Secondary to that is the cost of gaming licenses which based on my limited research are far beyond reason.

I fall back on my continuing argument about anything, let NASCAR or the NHRA figure out how to make it work on-site and adopt a similar format.

I have an idea for a gaming concept for pulling but haven't fleshed out all the what-ifs yet. My end-game would involve the 70% or more of the "house" profits go to a charity...but getting from point a to point b has a bunch of hoops to go through.

Interesting conversation.

I love this idea. They already do some pickum contests for some indoor pulls.

Our group bets on the ps and dss classes at bg.we spot ft to entice works good for us and have done this for 10 years or so.

Re: Grow the sport gambling December 27, 2021 03:48AM
I don't think this is the right time for anymore attention from the .gov.... Not a fan of gambling personally but to each there own. The way Patches does it would seem to be the best way at this time. Anything needing a license/permit from the any kind of government agency will draw other agencies to come sniffing around.

Side note, here in commy state of Illinois it is illegal to bring your concealed carry preference into any event that need a license/permit from the .gov even if you have the permit to do so. Basically any fair or community event.

People like MOST of us are not in charge so until that gets fixed we have to be extra careful.

Re: Grow the sport gambling December 27, 2021 07:21AM
I think it would work if you could do it through an app like Outlaws have. The easiest way to do it would be to offer head to head bets with distance factored in. Tractor A -10' vs. Tractor B + 10'. In this scenario, "Tractor A" would be considered the favorite. The betting limits would have to be very small otherwise those with inside information could make a killing.

Probably the smarter way to go about it would be make it more difficult for insiders to win like restricting it to only win bets (vs. the field) or exacta (top 2) and trifecta (top 3) only. But then that could get pretty complicated if the house didn't want to go bankrupt by midseason. Betting on the top two tractors to win an exacta shouldn't pay much whereas winning an exacta with a long shot in the mix would pay well.

Here's the deal boys, this sport can't get out of its own way, let alone betting on it. To many pullers willing to pull for free, it will never change.

They tell us that many adult Americans are opiate addicted, -I think I can see some of the resulting confusion -by some posts on here.

Re: Grow the sport gambling December 28, 2021 02:16PM
DUMMIE aint no dummie if u think considering the investment pulling for a 5 or 600 dollar shot at first is not considered pulling for free well its not going to change dummie is not DUMB

Re: Grow the sport gambling December 28, 2021 04:14PM
I really don't think it would grow the sport. It might for a couple years but not for the next 30 or 50.

Re: Grow the sport gambling December 29, 2021 01:58AM
We all pull for various reasons, I enjoy any win, but when the prize money helps pay the trip, gas, food and a little pocket fun it is a better experience, yet when I beat the local hero with a cheap two dollar mug as a prize, my chest full of pride and competitive strength is even more profound. It's a choice to pull, travel and be aggressive with how much we spend and at what level, as humans we do like and need some gratification for our efforts. It is no different for the folks that choose McDons over a fancy restaurant, a cruise over a tent camping experience. Most likely all the emotions play a part in the choices, responses and rules making decisions, jealousy and greed, anger and conceit are all good parts of the thought process, but sometimes make poor impressions. Ask the venues we all use to enjoy the pulling experience to pay out bigger purses and see how that works out for ya.

Re: Grow the sport gambling December 29, 2021 02:12AM
Well said and i agree !!!

Re: Grow the sport gambling December 29, 2021 04:31AM
Well said..Several years ago I started pulling a state level tractor in one of the lesser horsepower classes offered because I knew that I could afford to do it...I went in knowing that if I won 1/3rd of the hooks plus the points title that I would just barely pay for the fuel, entry fee, and the eats-etc..You know what,it was the most fun that I have ever had..I got to meet lots of great people and make some new friends...My tractor has been almost trouble free which sure helps things..Our pulling association pays out all the prize money that it can afford to..
