Massey Ferguson December 28, 2009 02:07PM
i not real familiar with massey's, im looking to possible build one to run in a 3000 rpm class. my first question is: is an 8.3 cummins the replacement motor for the perkins like in a 1135 or a tractor along that line? how light could i get it? and how much power can the drive train withstand? any info would be greatly appreciated, also any corrections on anything. just trying to learn. Thanks!

the best thing to do is stick with the 354 perkins or a 372 combine motor and get a 13mm bosch ve rotary pump for it ( sheid diesel makes a really hot ve pump 400-500cc in fact) do some head porting and some 4-18 injectors and a good holset charger that should put you over 300hp you will need steel firerings and a copper head gasket

thanks redman. i have to run a 3LM for a charger, does anyone make an adapter plate and drive setup to run an a pump?

it would be pretty difficult to put one one the 354 but im currently developing an A-PUMP adapter plate for the 1000 series perkins engine but ive never seen one on a 354 ..... an 1135 drive train should handle 1000 hp would be my guess im not sure about how light you can go with that tractor.... what are the rules for your class??

marshall watkins from newyork had a 2-105 white with the perkins in it and am pretty sure the last time i talked to him he told me he had an inline pump installed on it. it can be done and has been done also think the MAN from Illinois was planning on running an 1850 oliver with a perkins in the LLSS in badger state so i would think he would know how to install one also

The 1100 chassis can get down light, with the Perkins 6 you should be able the easily get it under 5500lbs. What weight class are you wanting to get to?

Dont screw with a rotary pump --its a waste of time!! run an inline pump--drive it with a cog belt like we do on the v8--works great!!

Re: Massey Ferguson June 17, 2010 04:13AM
or ya can just get a 1000 series perkins and put an inline on it.... the 1006 engine makes a little more torque than the 6.354 anyway

Re: Massey Ferguson June 18, 2010 05:18AM
is there a difference in the air flow abilities of the heads on the 105 and 1130 marine etc?

Re: Massey Ferguson June 18, 2010 10:33AM
don't use 354 go with sisu much better engine for pulling i had 500hp 1130 but way to hard to get and way to costly i used dot4 354 with rotary pump 3lm with big comp wheel
