IPA ProFarm

wondering
|
What are the rules for the IPA profarm 11000#? I was watching some of there videos on Youtube and was curious about what cubes, turbo, pump, and if they have intercoolers. |

From what i seen on the videos looks like an awesome class. wonder how many are at 466ci? rules state 3500rpm at 466 or less. Didn't sound like anyone was turnin that hard. Probably all 640ci. |

Badger state is 3x3.6 no slots 640 limit 466 can run superfarm slots all 3000 |

what is the better way to go? 466 @ 3500 or 640 @ 3000? Just thinking of building one for this class. Thanks |

Its all about having good equipment. I SP n Badgerstate have IH JD(bb n small),Case, n MF v8 all run good |
Re: IPA ProFarm

so what your saying is the 466 ih's will compete with the big block deeres with just the rpm advantage? |
Re: IPA ProFarm

sounds like you folks have some good runners up in that badger country and illini region. just how stiff is the compitition up there? |
Re: IPA ProFarm

My question is the same as Curious above. Can the 466 with 500rpm advantage compete with big cube engines? I'm not asking if they'd be on top, but if they could be close enough that if #1 and #2 big cube had a bad day the 466 could catch them. I can't imagine 500rpm could make up for 170ci. |

Right now the IPA has 2 - 466 cid tractors, (IH) each have new engines and tranny combinations in the tractors. from the few runs they have it seems to look very promising, as they seem very competative with the 640's.

Agreed. There is definitely not a huge gap in between the vehicles. As we look at our season so far the "handicaps" in place are very close.
Be sure to look at our schedule to see where the Pro Farm class is next and feel free to come watch or compete. We welcome new competitors. |

I'd love to come watch but I'm better than a half a day's ride just to get there. I'm just curious. Plotting my strategy for my new profarm/hotfarm setup. In my area we're restricted to 540ci and a 3x3 no rpm limit. I think a well built 466 with 3-3500 rpm, a top of the line 3x3 and good TA setup with the right gearing might be competitive against open rpm 540's with no TA. |

you are absolutely correct sir. |

We are one of those 466 and we have had a few problems this year. even with the problems we can are with in 20 foot of the 1st place guy. the only difference between the bb and the 466's is a 200 thousands map ring. when we figure out what gear to run on what track we will be right on top of the leaders i hope. |

Another reason for keeping the rpms lower is we aren't allowed P-pumps. Seems like the A-pumps and 15mm's don't hold up at high rpms. Maintenance cost is another angle I'm lookin at. Maintenance on the pump and TA would be lower. There isn't hardly any high rpm tractors around here with TAs or using a quad range or dual power. |

Horse power is hard on them. hard to keep one at over 1000 hp |

You will make the HP with a 466 at 3500 that a 640 makes at 3000. You will just be short on the torque with a 466. On a good bitten track the 640s will be on top and on a lesser bitten track its anybodies chance at winning . |

How much of a difference is an ice chest and intercooler gonna make? We're permitted to run one but the only tractor that ran one jumped to lps. |

If your allowed to run one get one on there asap. You wont believe the difference they make on the botton end! |

Its the difference between winning and losing. Like pullnv8 said get one on there. |

What intercooler cores seem to work the best? I've never had any dealings with them. Is there any more efficient than others? I have an aluminum ice chest and a core off of a large Cat engine i was goin to install but haven't got it on yet, wasn't sure if would make much difference or should use a core designed for pulling application. |

We just ran at the Kankakee Co. Fair yesterday and a 466 tractor finished in a solid second. (Should have won but the option got him).
As far as an intercooler goes, I would use a pulling specific intercooler. We tried using a Mack intercooler on Art's semi years ago (with some modifications) and it actually "choked" the motor. |
