Mankind, in general, has been fascinated with the heavens and space beyond earth since the beginning of time. A total eclipse in North America is an extremely rare event and the media and social media fed the fervor because it was low hanging fruit on the tree of news content. Its something beyond our control, an example of the grandeur of our world and universe. It was an event that united fol

This event is still a go, drier weather and windy conditions are working in favor to make the pull happen. Come pull and/or come watch for a worthy children's charity!

I guess my memory is okay. Looks like there was still a lot of smoke. Maybe it will work better now.
The system used in the Seventies was problematic because the filter would clog quickly. I'm no engineer but I'm curious to see how this new idea will work.

Such a loaded question, and as Patches offered, if I were using one daily its an 1850 with the Perkins for me - I rode on the fender and eventually drove one many a day as a kid.
The Oliver platform is such a plug and play chassis you can go in any direction...and precisely why you see so many Cummins re-powers today.

"If one or two of the top tractors had an early hook in that Saturday afternoon session this conversation would be less of a confrontation" Respectfully I disagree. Hook order didn't change the distances and it wouldn't have change the sled setting either. So how would anything be different? Actually I'm not exactly sure what you're implying so if I'm wrong please correct

Of course, thats playing the what-if game.
Vaughns setting worked out though the overall performance of the class was not what we have come to expect. I'd dare say the decisions made kept a couole tractors from having to make thrree hooks...had

Multi-generational pulling teams are essential to pulling's overall success and long term viability. At the core is the ability for families to be involved in a lifestyle/hobby/passion together, in my opinion. I see it at every level of pulling, a means to keep the family connected. My best example is a family I grew up around - its three generations and they're all new to the sport.

I saw him pull in Terra houte, in 1977. Home on leave from USMC, we went there to watch. Was also the 1st time I saw Arfons turbine, Had a Dana 60 in it, with plantaries. Some outfit was there making a movie called "DIRT". pulling was just one part of the movie. Stangle did good if I remember right. It was a while back!!!
I went digging, the movie "Dirt" is free on Amazon Prime. Pulli

Former puller Joel Armistead gave me a thumb drive this weekend with the linked video below on it with only one request - to share it with everyone.
I'm glad to do so, it is vintage pulling at the Robertson County Fairgrounds from the late Seventies, he believed it was 1979.
While you're recovering from Farm Show Week as I am, take a moment to watch this glimpse into the past.

The truck show is larger by the sheer volume and literal size of the trucks on display, and brings in between 60,000 and 75,000 attendees. Farm Show is north of 300,000 attendees. In attendance order, State Fair , Farm Show, North American Livestock Show, Truck Show, and the Street Rod Nationals are the five biggest events hosted there annually.

This is not a new situation or conversation. Gearheads, no matter what it is that fascinates them, have a subset of people that want things at a certain level of distinction from the rest of the pack and in the case of pulling it's important not only to look good but to perform at an elite level. The crop of tractors we've seen come out in the past 24 months can be referred to as "bes

Five men sit in a shop/man-cave and split the $40 per session
Split 2 18 packs of Busch Light @ 15 bucks a pack, thats the number the google machine gave me. $30.
Someone, or someone's wife makes a crock pot of chili...$15-20.
Crash in a chair or on a couch in the man cave. Everyone gets home safe.
Be able to visit without having to holler at one another in the shop.

Im going to root for a full house of live, in person fans no matter the event. Pulling is best experienced live and in person.
If you can't make it in person, live stream is highly economical.
-Consider:
1) You can split the cost of a live stream. When I was a kid it was cheap entertainment to pay a buddy 5 or 10 dollars to watch boxing on a pay-per-view.
2) Youre not buying fu

And we rant and rave about "growing the sport" and "next level" and "blah blah blah"
Might I suggest that the true grown up thing to do is to sign your name and "gasp" offer constructive criticism when you see a legitimate problem. Maybe even get involved with an event, never saw a pull have too much help.

Allowing cubic inch limits of 640 to 680 have actually killed the sport.
Someone tell me what ridged frame tractor every had a stock 680 cid engine.
The cost to build to that and hold together has put many people out.
We're 43+ years in now with a 680 limit in Pro Stock. It was a bad rule if your largest OEM engine was a 466 or smaller, or the engine architecture couldn
