If the engine was ever overhauled or had pistons/sleeves replaced at some point in its life, its possible the sleeves in some of the block bores fit too loose. The sleeves on these need pressed in hydraulically. Without it, the sleeves fit loose, and start moving in the bore of the block, which will lead them to cracking & breaking. Freezing the sleeve & driving them in w/ a block of wood just

I want to say I remember reading here about a Magnum Super Farm years ago that still used a highly modified Magnum tranny & rear end, but I can't recall who it was, much less how it would have ever been set up

Roll a 706 or 1066 rear end behind it & call it good?? You're gonna pull you're hair out trying to boost oil pressures to get master & shift packs to hold in a 5488 tranny

No problem little buddy how you coming with the big 1206?
Can't complain, two pulls already into this season, seems to be running good thus far, looks a whole lot better since I got it painted this spring.

Curious to how the 8500 & 9500 Open Farm tractors did, as well as the other classes, and how the turnout was that night.

I went to the local Freightliner dealer, they handle Fleetguard filters, where I picked up a 142784S filter head. It has 7/8" ORB threads, so with the proper fittings, you can plumb it with 1/2" line. An FS1000 or FS1212 Fleetguard filter works with this filter head.

Excellent videos Sascha, thanks for posting these! What size air restrictor do they run in the 7700 & 9900 lb classes?

I have seen others use the factory IH fuel filter head with success, but on yours, I'd consider eliminating it, and getting a Fleetguard fuel filter head with 7/8" ORB threads & using a Fleetguard filter, like a FS1212 filter. I want to say the part number for the filter head is a 142784S from Fleetguard. I have one of these on mine, it allows you to easily plumb your fuel system with 1/2"

If its a 466 in a combine, with an inline pump, it is not an A pump, it is an MW inline pump. The MW inline pump was factory on late 1480's, early IH powered 1680's, late 5488 tractors, and perhaps the 1844 cotton picker. An A pump was never used on a IH 400 series engine in the Ag line, it was either a Ambac 100 rotary pump, or a Bosch MW inline pump.

For those of you on Facebook, one of my friends created a page, "Good 'ol days tractor pulling", largely dedicated to sharing pictures of pulling tractors of yesteryear. I highly recommend checking it out & joining the group, whether you like to look at old pulling tractor pictures, or if you have a bunch you'd like to share.

Stock turbo for a 1026 or 1256 is a Schwitzer 3LD-229; 1456's had the Schwitzer 3LD-279, which looks identical externally.

The 856 is Wolfswinkels old tractor. The 3x88 is from South Dakota, but don't know who's it was.

Gonna need a double disc clutch setup, and a good pulling T/A to handle it. 407 is gonna need a 450 Roosamaster, and probably need fire-ringed. Plus a lot depends what your tractor weighs.

Fire rings would be the best, but ideally with grooves machined to accept & retain the fire rings in place. Then you can use a stock 407 replacement head gasket, after removing the metal fire rings from the gasket, leaving you only with the composite part of the head gasket.
I have heard of one individual that had a 407 built, fire-ringed but with no retaining grooves, said he somehow blew a
