I am working on a JD 466, gonna be kind of like a Super Farm engine. This 466 has the cam driven oil pump, is it worth keeping? Or is a external crank driven pump necessary? Thanks..

when eliminating pto driven gear and pto shaft does anything have to be put in there to take its place and do i keep drive pto gear and assembly on the top shaft the way it is or can it also be removed? thanks guys
The simple way is to just leave the IPTO input gear-shaft over the TA input shaft. This plugs the hole and takes very little power to turn. You can leave out the lo

Very few pulling tractors actually get the engine oil warm enough to boil out the condensation water anyway.. The oil cooler is just one more item to fail, and adds extra weight. I want to ditch mine because I had a head gasket failure (antifreeze in the engine oil) and dont want to go through all of the cleaning that the cooler will take to run safely.

I am thinking that I want to bypass the engine oil cooler on my DT 466. I know that there are vendors that have them for sale. I am capable of building my own. Is there a better or best way to do this. I have seen pipe with flanges, flanges with pipe elbows and hydraulic hose. Any input would be appreciated.

I am not familiar with Hypermax fire rings but I bet that they are much bigger than 4 3/8 diameter for a 466. The fire ring needs to be close to the outer diameter of the sleeve flange. This way the fire ring is directly over the counter bore of the block. If the fire ring is in too far, the pressure of torqueing down the head will break the flange off of the sleeve. I did the ma

I would like to see someone do a study on pullers in general. How much on the average does a puller spend from his disposable income? This is all relative, to some spending $800 on a engine for a WD-45 Allis is all they can afford. To others spending $100,000 a year is just a start. Somewhere in between those figures the bulk of us pullers fall. I would assume that today's economy has

The tool will take up to a 4 3/8" bore I have grooved several old cylinders just to see if it would work in a stock DT bore and it worked just fine. I am not trying to be lazy here, just looking for a better way to do this job without removing sleeves. If this works there should be several more in the county that I can cut.

I ordered a Hyper head gasket for my DT 466. I understand that I have to take the sleeves out and do some machining to allow the fit of the o-rings . Is it possible to use a Isky Cams O-ring cutter to do that process on the sleeves without removing them from the block?? This is the tool that I have been using to O-Ring blocks it is quite accurate and controlable.

I assume that you are talking about having a bicycle tire that runs on the ground with a bicycle spedo on it.. OR have a bicycle spedo that measures off the front wheel of your tractor/?

This is absolutely brilliant, thanks Sascha!!
Why drive at all, sell the car, take that money and the gas that you now don't have to buy and JUST BUY BEER. Just think of how much further ahead we will all be. Besides we are NOT SUPPOSED TO DRINK AND DRIVE ANY WAY:

I have looked on summitracing and jegs for light weight universals to use to make my steer shafts. The problem is to do the whole thing i ll have almost 300 dollars in just U joints. Can anyone help me here with something or somewhere to look for cheaper u joints
Will you have more than 3 universal joints on your 460?? 3 will usually get almost any tractor that I know of..

OK George, I did check out the Surplus Center. That joint appears to be a good one at a reasonable price. Not quite as professional as some of the race units, but should do the job.
These might look more professional for the same price IMHO

If you're ok with saving a few bucks by cutting corners on something as unnecessary as steering, why not just remove the brakes and air shutoff while you're at it? Borgeson steering joints or nothing for my stuff!
I would agree with this. Steering has progressed from a bit of bailer twine on each side of the go cart for most of us. Spend $4,000 for a turbocharg

Is there a tighter exhaust housing for the 3-LM 466 charger? I am using one on a IH 312 with a 13mm pump in a 3200rpm class. I have to peg the doo out of it to bring it off the line. Once its wound up it seems to stay lit quite well. Just would like a bit more friendly nature down low..

We use both: intercooler and also water injection. (water injection comes in at 3.0 bar of turbopresure) Water-methanol is not allowerd in the Netherlands. I agree with German1066: good intercooler is the best way to start with.
(if someone needs a 1.9 TDI engine: I've got 10 in stock)
So how much to send one to Washington State???

I made my turbo manifold for my 312 666 by taking the truck 2 piece manifold and cutting the turbo mount off of it. Then I cut the turbo upright off of a 1066 manifold and welded the two together. It looks very stock and works quite well.

The industrial IH upright Turbo manifold is very very rare, they came on some of the skidders and not many other IH applications. The real turbo manifold will outflow the M&W screw top by quite a bit, however your boost (at your level of fueling) may not vary much. I assume that you want to go pulling?? How much power do you need to compete?? As you wind up with more fuel, larger injector

For any given weight a circle is stronger than a box or rectangle. The box will more easily deform because of the flat surfaces. IF the chassis builder does a proper job of notching the round tubes for a exact fit the pressures exerted on the side are more evenly distributed. Chassis flex can be built into any structure, The round tube will take repetitive flex many more times than a square

The $$ issue is a crux problem of all pullers no matter how big or small. Seem if you dont spend the money on parts someone that pulls against you sure will and kick your A55. This sport is not inexpensive at almost any level. I would guess that you will have $5,000 to 7,000 in the engine if you want to go max cubes and hire the work done.

Actually it is almost impossible to melt pistons in a natural asperated engine by over fueling. With regular diesel (not hot stuff) when you go into excess fueling the combustion temperature goes down. Excess fuel will actually cool the combustion chamber enough that the engine will start puking unburnt fuel out the exhaust stack. This drool looks like tar, the other byproduct is cylinder was

Save some money, just buy a 12v Dodge, junk the body and put your Chevy body on the frame. WAY less expensive than the mods you will have to do to run a DT466. IMHO

When you install the TA with that many discs It helps to shove the quill and CM gears up into the clutches first and then lower the assembly into the transmission.. I hold the quill in place with a long bolt and a large washer and wingnut. Make sure to check for endplay and shim accordingly..
