I have a truck DT 466 in my 1066 puller tractor. I pull 12,000# 3200rpm 12mph class. I have a 13mm model 100 ambac,w lines and big injectors. Run a stock 3-LM466 charger. Inject some water and washer fluid into the intake. It will run 50+psi manifold on a good hooking track. I have been running a stock head gasket and head bolts for the last 6-7 years with no problem. I blew the hea

i know a guy who had a head done. When he laid the head gasket on the head he realized that the oversized valves would hit. Diesel shop told him just to notch the liners. This was for a pulling application.
This is the exact method the racers use to clearence the valves in the cylinders. Just use the head gasket as a template. A die grinder will do just fine as long as yo

When the valve is open the side of the valve that is close to the cylinder wall does not flow as good as the open side of the valve. You notch the upper part of the cylinder bore where the valve is close to free up some of the space. One of the most notable engines this was done on was the MOPAR Max wedge 413 and 426 engines. The Max wedge heads had very large valves for the size of the cyl

Does anyone in Diesel tractor pulling clearance the liners?? Drag racers have been clearancing cylinder walls for years. Unshrouds the valve.

Not really worth the trouble to change to the 766 axle, it is almost identical in weight.

My local LP gas dealer has barrels of Methanol in the shed. They use it in the propane tanks to dry the gas. I used to mix my own water and Meth that I got from them. Depends on your relationship with your propane supplier. Mine sold it to me at his cost.

I just run washer fluid, I really cant tell you if washer fluid is better than some of the commercially available mixes. I know that Snow Performance promotes what they sell, as they should. I have tried straight water, almost straight methanol and all sorts of mixes between. After figuring out that I AM NOT A CHEMIST I went on to something much simpler ,cheap simple washer fluid. We

The methanol content is really what you are after. The alky in the water really helps cool the charge air and there is power in it too. Dont go overbord with methenol too strong a mix and the pistons tend to exit up the stack.
I use the cheapist Wallmart 20degree washer fluid they have. I run the engine up to 1800 rpm no load and adjust the pump till the engine starts to smoke an

The stock 10mm Ambac pump can be opened up and some linkage mods will help. You can change the delivery valve and shim the governor springs. It really depends on HOW MUCH HP it will take to be in the hunt where you pull. I sent both my Ambac pumps to DIS and am very happy with how they do on the track. The 13mm head has worked really well for me. IF you will at some time be allowed t

I could dig up a set of used stock head bolts if you really need stockers. You should be able to find some closer to home.

You really dont "need" to put big valves in the head. Big valves are going to help if you are going to push for the most horsepower possible with the 300ci cylinders. What do you expect for horsepower?? How many RPMs IF you do a mild port and polish, use a larger venturi in the carb this is a good start. If you want the maximum with the larger valves you need to port the head to matc

It is not that hard to turn down the stock hub to a auto pattern. A good machine shop should be able to do the job in a couple of hours.

Thinking of a light JD puller, Is it better to start with a 4020 diff and trans than a 4030? I assume that the transmission is very similar. I found a 4030 no cab or rops., has just the syncro 8 speed trans, priced reasonably. Wondering if it has a wet clutch like all of the bigger 30 series JDs.

In my opinion, IF all you need is 300-350 hp just open the pump, get some better injectors and the 3-LM charger. But the reality of how pulling works is you will probably go back and do a bunch of stuff over again. In that case, do a cam, preferably roller maybe the stock truck cam. Port and polish just to help things flow a bit better. IF you have to run the stock AMBAC pump send it in

I assume that you will use the turbo, If so 300hp is as easy as just turning the screw in the pump, More than that takes more than that.
