The most common need to blend those tractors is putting the 66 series engine in an 06/56. The hoods need lengthening to match the longer 66 frame. I have seen 66 sheet metal grafted on an 06, so I'm sure what you are looking at doing can be done, but I have no idea how much work it will be.

I assume some of those IH's would be running the 358 german, correct? What pump are they allowed, and what pump can be put on them. I have heard people ask before about putting an inline on a German, but nobody state-side seems to know....

If your rules allow it, Keystone makes a turbo for the gas 301. Down draft carbs are almost universally prohibited, but they perform if you are allowed. They can be tweaked to run high rpm, but safety equipment is required, and it will put you in a different class. I have heard of them running up to almost 500 cubes, making some serious power, but that will cost serious money to do it!!

The Mississippi is back under flood stage throughout the upper mid-west. They were even able to start the car ferry in Cassville by Memorial day. The river is still high, but within it's banks.

fudd- not everyone is big. Not everyone wants to be big. Not everyone considers big to be better. If you are big, I have no problem with that. If you are small and wishing to be big, that is not my problem. If you don't farm at all, your opinion doesn't matter anyhow. Yes, I will have about 50 acres of corn this year when all is done. Am I a hobby farmer? No, I milk cows, and on

Got another 8-10 acres left here, gotta finish plowing the sod. Then will be done til after first crop hay. Probably the best field conditions I could have hoped for. I run and IH 686 pulling a 4-row JD 7000. Might be small, but I don't use a quarter tank of fuel total on 45 acres!

On farm thefts are high in our area as well. Happening during the day, at night, anytime, anywhere. Cops can't do much about it, either. Stuff being stolen ranges from scrap (usually copper) to power tools, Craftsman hand tools, anything not bolted down that can be sold quickly. It's hard to even say if it is the druggies, or just some kids, or un-employed bums.

Unfortunately Heartland has limits on cubes in the open speed classes. But in the 10 mph classes they do not. I guess they figure speed is a good equalizer.

Heartland pullers (htpa.biz) are a good group. Not sure of the turbo rules in the big classes, but I know they have some 6030's running with them. Biggest rules are make weight, and keep your RPM's under 3000.

Ok, so making a big bore engine is pretty straight-forward: punch the holes bigger, put bigger pistons in. But what about stroking??? Let me say that I really just don't know how it's done and would like to, so I am gonna ask. First, let's eliminate the options of a longer stroke crank that is factory available or custom, I can figure out how that works. But if you want to stro

FYI: any time you cross state lines (or even go to a river grain terminal on the state line) you need to follow FEDERAL rules.... So even though Wisconsin allows farmers a pass, and Iowa (used to/mayber still does) offer them a pass, I am not legal to haul with my setup in Iowa without the full rigamarole. I have never been hassled, though.

Don't worry about the strength of the center section. MANY pullers use a 706 even. To my knowledge, you would have to beef up a 1066 the same way as an 806 anyhow.

I say find a P-pump cummins out of a Dodge (94-98) or school bus. That will be the cheapest way to get power. Putting it ahead of a 560 or M will give you a simple, economical tractor that makes weight and has power.

How much work do you want to do to the tranny??? I have seen an 806 gas pull 6000#, but he didn't have a full set of gears. He also didnt' have aluminum wheels, or roll cage, or tube frame. I think it will be interesting to see what others respond about how light they got, and how.

What work would it take? Adapter plates!!! They were used in late 686's so if you can find the parts from one of those (good luck) you probably wouldn't have much trouble. Or find someone who can make a backing plate, and probably a custom flywheel. I have never done this swap myself, but I know it has been done. Perhaps someone else here has done it and can tell you better.

A factory 282 or a D-301 out of a combine will be the only direct fit engines. Anything else is gonna take work. Smaller engines like the German 310 or IH 312/360 may fit easier than a 466, but the 466 can be done (and has been).

Along the same lines as the original post, how difficult is it to remove this stuff when you need to fix things? Can a person just get in there with a knife and cut it out? Or is it a real PITA?

I believe the two speed he is referring to is merely a gear splitter, not a shift-on-the-fly like a TA. You can eliminate the TA, but a meticulously built TA can hold 1000 hp. Reliablility at that HP can be debated, and life expectancy is not like a farm tractor, but they are being used successfully at that hp.

I've heard that rotating the axle while you use the chop saw will get through it quicker. THe outside is hardest, so once you get past that it can really bite quickly. But I haven't tried it yet myself....

Farm tax exemptions are the problem, not the way around it, as I understand. I was told you can buy all the groceries and Christmas presents you want at walmart, but if you spend $601 on feed for your cows, you need to report it. My tax preparer is going to start charging to send out 1099 forms, to the tune of $4 each. She suggested as a way to limit it, put everything on a credit card. That

Depends.... Are you friends with the guy who runs it??? lol
An argument can be made that the 466 is a factory block in a 966, as they are identical except the internals and the little stamped plate. Whereas it is not the same engine as came factory in an 806.
But you sure wouldn't be the first to do it!
