What do you mean by "Why would you even want or need that much pressure?"

I worked in a diesel fuel injection pump shop for several years building both stock and high performance injection pumps. Some makes of pumps will have the rack get stiff if too much primary fuel pressure is applied. Bosch inline pumps seem to be the least affected or most tolerant to high fuel pressure, but Simms/CAV/Lucas inline pumps are sensitive. Much over 20 PSI of primary fuel pressure on

Thanks for the great photos. I especially appreciate the pictures of the Allison Teams UB with the Allison V-1710. I had compiled quite a few old and new photos of the tractor, but recently lost them all on the computer (yeah, I know, I should have backed them up!). If anyone else out there has any additional pictures of the Allison Teams tractors, I would really appreciate them.
Thanks, Charl

Well gang I'm arm chair pulling on this one. I've not pulled this season at all, and only made one hook last year, but I can tell you a little about what the "experts" in fuels and fuel delivery tell me. On this same thread earlier, a statement was made about Q 16 being oxygenated and thats true, but it's no where near as hot as VP's old DRT fuel. It was also stated that metha

It sounds like the pull is on. It sure would be nice to get some of that rain down here in west central Indiana. No rain here for a month and a half!

I'm not sure if what I got you'd be interested in, but I've got two V-12 GMC 702 cu. in. gas engines. I'd probably get rid of one of them, but not both. I saw you have an 812 area code and I live southeast of Terre Haute Indiana. We might not be to far away from each other.

I heard this joke one time that one of your postings made me remember about hauling melons. These two guys where hauling melons from southwestern Indiana in a medium size truck to sell at market in Chicago. They were paying 50 cents per melon upon picking them up. When they got to Chicago, the market price was 50 cents. After hauling several loads of melons they figured up their expenses and dete

Ed is a good friend of mine back then, and now. While he no longer pulls, he doesn't like being reminded of that incident. I do remember the noon day news and the wheelie he "Popped". If memory serves me correctly, he knocked the wide front end out from under it. I can't remember though if it was advertizing for the Vigo County Fair, or an interview.
The interviewer could have bee

Now that looks like one, fun, ride!!!!!! I tried a twin turbo'd 6.2 Detroit Allison in a sheet metal framed 44 Massey Harris for while about 7 years ago. I used two hybrid TO-3 Airesearch turbo's, a Simms inline pump, and low pressure water injection. It made about 55 lbs. of boost with 300 cc's of fuel @ 5,500 RPM. It gave me the chance to shake down the chassis and the crowd love

You wish a D-6 could out work it!!!!!! Even a new model D-6 couldn't come close do doing what an HD-41 or 41B could do. No doubt about it that a new model D-6 would out maneuver it, but there's no way it will move more material over a period of time unless it's mud and the D-6 is an LGP. So, what makes me an expert? How about 40 years of operating heavy equipment and close to 20 of

I placed this ad in the wanted section, but I know not everyone looks at it. I lost a clutch just over 2 weeks ago and trashed my can (thank goodness we use SFI safety equipment!). I'm looking for at least an 8 1/8" can to fit a BBF 429-460. I would consider a deeper can. I'm not concerned with the brand. If you've got one or know someone who does, please contact me via email or at

Dave King and his modified tractor are featured in the Loctite commercial earlier in the thread. Dave mainly pulls with NYTPA. His tractor has been sponsered by Loctite for several years now. Wish I could find a sponser like that for my tractor! It would definitely help offset fuel costs this summer (a new short block wouldn't hurt either).

I'm currently running a set of double cut 24.5 "Pullers" on a 5,800 lb. single engine modified. I too have learned of the advantages and disadvantages of double cuts. They really shine on hard tracks. I like the fact that on a good track they put virtually no dirt in front of the sled, but they do bite good. I've also found they've freed up some horsepower and I can run a lot faste

Wilsons old Little American tractor chassis is still alive. I'm not sure about what happened to the engine. The chassis is still run in our group Indiana Modified Tractor Pullers Association (www.imtpa.com) by Jim Lowry. It use to be called "Just Havin Fun". Jim repainted and repowered it last season and is giving it a new name. It currently is powered by a BBC, even though Jim ran a BBF in

Thanks you for clairifying that. I was going to get my feathers ruffled if he was referring to IMTPA. Being a member of IMTPA, I can assure you that our tractors in most cases run ground speeds in excess of 20 MPH, sometimes more.

I have a couple of questions for littleangry-papajohn. Just exactly what are you posting about when you say "doug do the fans a favor and leave the 10 mph junk mod show at home under dennys shade tree !!!!!"? What do you mean by 10 MPH junk mod? I'm just curious.

Well I've listened to people talk and leave messages on message boards for years. Any of us pullers or pulling fans who live in southern Indiana have been ignored by several groups. I'm not here to slander, or throw rocks. It's a simple fact as Wicked Whitetail said, this is a chance to change some of the dissatisfaction that many pullers in not only Indiana, but also Illinois feel

The original owner of the Albino Rat was Bill Hayes who lived at Joran Village at the time which is located southeast of Brazil Indiana. He built the truck originally and currently lives over at Indiananpolis. I think it originally had a 605 BBC when he ran it, but was downsized to 470. Brad Chamberlin and Mike Clark who both live at Brazil Indiana bought it off of Bill and Jan Hayes sometime aro

Dutch,
Your final drive ratio will also depend on your rear tire size. If you're running 24's, with around 700 HP, you're going to probably going to need to be down in the 48 to 52 to 1 ratio to as you say "get on top of it!" If you're running 30's, you may need to be closer to 55 to 1. Also, the less gears you run through, the less HP you'll lose through

Dutch,
What size engine are you running? Also, what rear tires? There's a group of us that run single engine mods here in Indiana. If you can answer those questions, some of us in the group might be able to tell you where you need to be (well close anyway) on your ratios. I do know from running a T-905 in my blown modified years ago, that there's various headset gear ratios av

Contact John Jones @ Odon Machine, (812) 636-7781. He has built quite a few 510, 540 & 640 Perkin's, both N/A and turboed. I know of several N/A 540's and one 510, that he took out to 640-650 cubes. He use to run his own 1155 in the Illinois Stock Tractor Pullers Association 10 & 12 N/A class that was very competitive. Hope that helps.

I agree with Richard. Our group is very competitive and we're trying to keep it that way. Most of the tractors in our group are getting just about everything they can out of their tractors. As far as an economy modified, there's no such thing, but we do try to hold the cost down by having very strict rules, and we follow them.
As far as the La Porte pull goes, if we'd been c
